Great tongs ... I use them every day August 1, 2006 C. Fitzgerald (Bay Area, California) I purchased these tongs because, well, I just needed tongs for the kitchen. My old tongs are the type built for the barbeque ... great on the grill, but just a little too much for the kitchen. First off, these tongs are approximately 13 inches long. They are the perfect length for use on the stove, at the barbeque, salads, etc. The business end is large enough to grip food -- one side is semi-serrated, the other is smooth. The semi-serrated side helps grip the food, while the smooth side facilitates a scooping/spatula action (to a degree). All edges are smoothed-off, so no problems with tearing the skin off a potato or catching the edge of a pan. These are heavy-duty tongs. They are constructed of surprisingly thick stainless steel; the hinge is top notch and the spring seems to be of the type that won't give out. The finish is very nice and even. Unlike most of my kitchen wares, these tongs do find themselves in the dishwasher from time to time with no consequences. The action on these tongs is great -- they are easy to close, and have just enough "springy-ness" to open when you relax your grip. This was important to me, as my old barbeque tongs caused my hands to cramp up while tending to my food. I really like the locking mechanism -- it works ... all the time ... no problems. Moreover, I found that as these tongs "aged" a bit, the lock could be engaged by pointing the tongs down (and could be disengaged by pointing the tongs upward). Again, this is nice when you're down to one hand. Once cleaned and locked, these tongs fit nicely into my spoon crock. My only complaint with these tongs is that they don't open as far as I would have liked. The "open" dimension is approximately four inches, which makes it difficult to snatch an artichoke out of the steamer or fetch a squash out of the broiler (hence, I keep the barbeque tongs around). If you are looking for a well-designed and well-built set of tongs that will last you a great while, I would strongly recommend these tongs.
Light and easy to handle tongs August 23, 2005 W. Megyery (Illinois) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
These are really handy tongs. Easy to use and the locking feature is a help. Light weight but sturdy.
Hey, I Bought These Because of Other Reviewers' Recommendations! August 10, 2005 I'mThinking (SE, TX USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
So, the hubby wanted some new tongs for his grill. Mind you, this man is a serious bull in a china shop. I could no longer skimp on tongs that he will abuse, carelessly toss in the dishwasher (some of the old ones couldn't go in the dishwasher, ugh!), leave outside, drop on concrete patio, etc. These tongs have been the perfect solution! They are heavyweight with 18/10 stainless steel and dishwasher safe, though I like to wash them by hand. The locking closure is really cool and unbreakable-so far, unlike the flimsy ones the hubby has broken in the past. I purchased these tongs on the basis of other Amazon reviewers' recommendations and I have to say they steered me to the perfect product at an incredibly affordable price. Do not be fooled by the price, these are HIGH QUALITY tongs! You will not be disappointed with these tongs, so buy them already.
Didnt know tongs could be this nice. May 23, 2005 W. L. Holder (Phoenix, AZ, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
These are tongs so I wont get too in depth. They are clean and sleek, no crevices for junk to get stuck in, very easy to clean. One side has teeth and the other is smooth, making them very versitile. The best feature is that they are easiliy operated with one hand. Of course you can manipulate the function with one hand, what I mean is you can lock and unlock them one handed. Simply hold them closed and tip them upward, the lock will slide out of the handle and keep them closed. To open, simply sqeeze the handles and point them down, the lock will slide back into the handle and they will open. You dont realize how handy this is until you actually are cooking with them.
