1 out of 5 stars Bad Blender   July 14, 2008
N. Barlow
Like other reviewers we thought the $200 Breville blender would last a long time. The leakage problem is intolerable. I've tried to find the 'key', but have decided the problem is the ridged silicone seal. The blade mechanism loosens in action, and it doesn't seem to matter how hard it's tightened before use. Because it makes a great smoothie, we sent our first one back (after quite a service department hassle) and had high hopes it was just a lemon. The second one still leaks almost every use.
I hope we can get our money back, but I figure it's a long shot. DO NOT BUY unless you enjoy anger and frustration at 6:30 am!

2 out of 5 stars Nice blender until...   July 13, 2008

This is a great blender that I enjoyed very much for the first six months until some liquid got into the NON-REMOVABLE rubber seal on the inside of the container and started to smell...
Unappealing.

That said, it was a great blender while it lasted. Buying a Vita-Mix 1363 CIA Professional Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor, Platinum or a KitchenAid KPCB348PNP Pro Line Chef's Blender with Polycarbonate Jar, Nickel Pearl next.

Pretty disappointed with this thing given the hefty price tag.

1 out of 5 stars 2 Lemons, Breville has problems   July 8, 2008

I purchased the 600XL model in December 2007. I used it perhaps 20 times the last few months. The lip on the glass container chipped twice during the first few uses. In June 2008, it started leaking and the motor developed a grinding noise. I then purchased another one and noticed some changes. It is now called the 600XLA model. The lip is more sturdy, the rubber sealer ring is more solid and the blade assembly attaches differently. There is a tool included that assists in removing the blade assembly which was a difficult process in the first one. This new blender worked great the first time I used it. The second time, it wouldn't work at all. The lights on the buttons came on and the on/off button flashed...but no action. Dead! This blender was made in China. Could that be part of the problem? I've had much cheaper blenders in the past and never had any problems. As soon as I put out a little extra money to get a really good one...that will last, I wind up with 2 lemons right in a row. I'll go back to the store and get yet one more blender and we'll see what happens. It is a fabulous blender when it works. But this is really a disturbing senario. Also, customer service said that you can use the tool to tighten and loosen the blade assembly in spite of what it says in the manual. Honestly, I don't know how much more of this I can take.

1 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but useless   June 10, 2008

I chose this blender because of the sleek and attractive design, and at $200, I thought it would be superior to the blenders that are half the price. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I first used it to crush ice. I filled the jar with ice and it didn't work at all. I tried using every feature and button on the blender, I removed half of the ice so that it was only filled up 1/3 with ice, I even had two friends try it to see if I was doing something wrong. Still no crushed ice. Breville claims that this blender can be used to chop or puree vegetables, but after the experience that I had with the ice, I can be sure that it won't be an effective kitchen appliance for anything other than blending liquids.
It's too bad....I really hoped and expected this to be an exceptional kitchen appliance.
