Product Description Compact, attractive and durable, the powerful Acme centrifiugal extractor gets high marks for the amount and quality of its juice as well as its relatively easy cleanup. In fact, users say its residue is so dry that juice yields are 20 percent to 35 percent greater than the slightly more convenient automatic pulp-ejection models. Because juicing is fundamentally a messy business, ease of cleanup is a major selling point, especially among serious, regular juicers. Equipped with a rugged 1/4-horsepower motor and stainless steel housing and backed by a long warranty, the Acme delivers enough power to extract juice from a wide range of fruits and vegetables (a citrus attachment is required for orange juice). Its relatively high rpm can heat juices - problematic for those concerned about oxidation and/or storing fresh juices. Acme makes several other centrifugal models, including the slightly less expensive (and plastic) 5001 and 7001. All accept the optional citrus attachment ($75 list), which transforms the Juicerator's 3,600 rpm into sufficient torque to squeeze citrus fruits. Acme also makes a machine specifically for citrus juicing - the Acme Citrus Juicer. Acme is made by Waring. Product Features Centrifigual Style Juicer with Stainless Steel Blade, Basket, Bowl and Top Motor: 1/4 HP, 3600 RPM, 3,600 rpm 2 quart capacity. OPTIONALLY Purchaseable Accessories - Paper Filters, Citrus Attachment Manufacturers Limited 10 Year Warranty, Acme is made by Waring,

What a work horse! May 21, 2009 Barbara Burns (WA state USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Also got my Acme sometime in the 70's. Just brought it out of storage to start juicing again, and it works as well today as it did when I first bought it. Always was somewhat noisy and a bit of a pain to clean, but you get used to that quickly. It holds a lot of pulp between cleanings and a kitchen brush makes a quick job of it.
As a testament to the quality and the relative ease of cleaning, someone packed the unit away when we moved 5 years ago without cleaning it out first! It looked horrible, the pulp had dried but was reduced to a black papery crust covering the inside, and the plastic plunger was so badly stained that I thought it would have to be replaced. Wiped everything out and dumped it in the sink to soak in hot water and bleach. Didn't have much hope at that point, but 30 minutes later it washed up perfectly clean, as if nothing had ever happened to it! I was amazed, but probably shouldn't have been. This is undoubtedly one of the best things that I ever invested in.
Reliable old workhorse November 29, 2008 David Nobel (North Dartmouth, MA USA) We have owned our Acme since approximately 1978, give or take a year or two. I can't compare it to anything else because we haven't used another machine since purchasing it. Moderately noisy and a hassle to clean, but it is an incredibly reliable workhorse that just keeps on going. Built like a tank. With the same design as the one shown here, our old model has all stainless removable parts over the white enamel motor housing. While the fact that it does not automatically eject pulp is a minus on the one hand, on the other hand, the Acme extracts up to 20% more juice according to independent reviews.
solid build, not hassle free March 28, 2008 Joseph L. Kolb (harris, mn USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
i've had my acme 5001 for years. i agree it is well-built and sturdy. my main complaint is the filter sheets. you have to use these filter sheets (which are bleached) on it. once they start getting covered with pulp, you get less juice out of the machine. so, if you are doing a lot of juicing at once, you'll have to change filters, or, it will be like a King of Queens comedy episode were Doug goes through a bag of fruit for a couple drops of juice. (i have been told you can juice without the sheets.) cleaning it is a hassle too. i do own the citris attachment. it works great, though big and bulky. the shoot is small also and you have to cut cup things like apples or larger veggies. also very hard to clean. i would look into better designed juicers as there are plenty to choose from.
Bought mine in 1977 February 20, 2007 Sally (Arizona) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
That would be 30 years of serious juicing, and it's still going strong. It powers through about anything you stuff in it, and it's heavy and stays where you put it. Yes, it's a bit noisy-- it sounds something like a miniature tree chipper (fine as long as it works like one) but it's not as loud as our KitchenAid stand mixer. It makes great juice.
Does a great job with the citrus too. I have never regretted my purchase.
Great tasting juice January 12, 2007 H. Lawson 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love fresh juice. It is so good. This machine has no trouble juicing hard fruits and vegetables. It does get off balance when trying to juice softer fruits and vegetables. I wish it was easier to clean. I tried the juice filters, and they cause the juicer to become off balance a lot easier. But I have to say, fresh juice is so much better than you buy in the grocery store. And I love the fact I can control my ingredients. I would highly recommend juicing.
