DO NOT BUY A Healthmaster - it is a waste of money. March 16, 2010 SG (Novi, MI United States) We bought the Healthmaster 6 months ago. It is very loud. In an industrial environment the person operating it would be compelled to wear ear protection.
The container is now leaking all over the counter. The company will not do anything about it. Do not waste your money on this product. We are very sorry that we did!!
Waaay too big March 16, 2010 Beenthere (Castro Valley, CA) Hey folks....be really sure that you really want this emulsifier, because...if you find, like I did that it is just waaay too big for your kitchen and have to return it, then guess what? If you live in California, you will have to pay $34.00 UPS for the return shipping to Connecticut...and then, guess what? The company will deduct their original shipping charge of $29.99 from your refund! What this means is that this is going to turn into a $64.00 experiment and all you will have to show for it is an education, hopefully, in the ways that corporations do business nowadays. I was not able to fit the HealthMaster under the cabinets on my kitchen countertop. This is a really big unit. I have a modest...but not small kitchen. I really don't like paying something for nothing.
HealthMaster LWHM Living Well/Montel 1100-Watt 2-Quart Fruit-and-Vegetable Emulsifier March 11, 2010 Benny Melendez (Chicago IL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Montel Williams health Master blender is really nice.
To my satisfaction, it really Emulsifier the fruits and vegetables.
The infomercials, which are shown on TV. Do not show that there is some want more work involved. But on the other hand it does Emulsifies all the veggies put into it. Cleanup is easy, but you do need to keep the plate at the bottom of the pitcher dry.
If you buy this product from Amazon. You'll find that you will save on shipping charges, which turned out to be about $30 less than Montel Williams home page.
Great Value and Function! March 8, 2010 Joyce B. Johnson (Maryland) I have owned mine for 3 months and have used it almost daily. If I am not making fresh juice, I am making a smoothie every day for my health. I really like it, even though it is heavy and the safety locking mechanisms make it seem cumbersome when comparing it to my friend's more stream-lined Vita-Mix. I bought it because I am out of work and could not afford a Vita-Mix, and this one does all the Vita-Mix can do at half the cost. It is very safe to use and extremely easy to clean if you are just preparing plant-based products in it. After a smoothie, I usually do just a quick rinse with water without removing the bottom, and there has been no build-up of anything in 3 months of use!
The 64-oz. carafe is family-size, and the smooth steel blades are not sharp enough to cut a finger - which I like because I can use my fingers to get under the blades to help dislodge anything especially sticky, like a raw pie dough made from nuts, raisins and dates I made the other day. That was actually the only time I used a little soap and a scrubbie to clean it, followed by running water inside it on high to completely rinse it out. Still, it was not difficult. The crystal-clear carafe is made of something that things just do not stick to easily. So, it rinses out like a dream! Occasionally, I use baking soda in water to clean it. Because I do not use animal products, I am not concerned for disinfecting it. If I was, I would use something for hard surface disinfecting, like Germ Control, instead of a dishwasher. Most dishwashers do not disinfect anything because they are not hot enough for long enough, so they give one a false sense of security! I would never think of putting any part of this in a dishwasher because it would scratch up the beautiful finish on the carafe and make it hard to clean in the future.
I noticed from the start that the metal underneath the bottom of the carafe seemed to be cast iron, not stainless steel, and I was concerned about it rusting. So, I was very careful in the beginning not to get the underside of it wet. From reading other reviews, rusting has been a problem for some, but this can only happen if this metal gets wet and is not dried thoroughly. After a few cleaning rinses, however, I realized I did not have to be careful because it was designed to keep this metal dry when cleaning the carafe - as long as the carafe is kept tilted somewhat upward, although even sideways is fine. I don't think there is a proper warning about avoiding this problem, though, when cleaning it, and that is an issue I wish Montel would address. The metal that can rust is so deeply recessed (like 1") into the bottom and there is an angled lip surrounding it. I can rinse it under fast running water in a sink, letting the water rush all over the outside, without getting a drop of water near those recessed metal parts! So, I have no problem with this and don't think you will either now that you understand what to avoid.
Because the carafe is so large and the motor so powerful, it comes with a tamper that is absolutely necessary to get things moving when blending large quantities of healthy greens such as romaine, spinach or kale into a thick drink, sauce or "raw" soup. I was timid using it at first, but you really have to push down hard with it and push things around sometimes to get things moving or keep them moving. Sometimes, I add a little more liquid, but I am careful not to add too much because I don't like a runny, diluted smoothie!
There are some drawbacks, but I believe these are more than offset by the low cost. It is very heavy and very tall, so it will not fit under most cabinets. Plus, I am only 5' tall, so even putting things inside of it was a problem for me when I had to keep it on a counter top. In fact, I was almost afraid to use it because its size intimidated me for a couple of weeks! But, I got used to it because I loved the drinks I could make with it. :) I later moved it to a work table in my kitchen. Before then, I liked to stand on a very stable stool that I always have nearby. Now, that I am used to using it, though, that would not be necessary unless adding a powdered supplement. (You need to see the top opening to avoid getting anything on the cover.) Not only is it big, it is also loud, especially on higher speeds. But, really, one should not be running it for more than a minute to do most things anyway! We should process everything as little as possible to avoid disrupting or killing the live enzymes.
Montel would have us all making and also COOKING soup in this blender/emulsifer, but that is absolutely ridiculous for two good reasons. First, I don't think there is an automatic turn-off mechanism to protect it if it gets too hot from overuse. (I will bet the manufacturer of that motor never intended it to run at high speed for 10 to 20 minutes, and it is too noisy anyway for that!) Second, what heats the soup is at least partly friction caused by the blades churning at high speed through the contents of the soup, a very rough, inefficient way to generate heat. This is not good for the motor and not good for the live enzymes spinning around for 10+ minutes until they heat up - and die! This is supposed to be a product to promote health, and heat kills nutrients or, with very few exceptions, makes them less accessible to our body. To preserve as much of the health benefits of eating fresh produce in soup form, just blend the soup in less than a minute to the right consistency and heat it - very gently - in a pot until just warm enough to suit your taste. That would also save the powerful motor from undue wear and tear and prolong the useful life of this sturdy blender.
If you are on a budget - and your wrists are not weakened by age or disease of some kind, I think you would be happy with the HealthMaster. I have deducted one star because the carafe and its top are both hard for me to twist to lock and unlock them. The blender will not even turn on unless both are all the way in place. Since my hands are the size of most 12-year-olds, I have to use two hands to twist the large top on or off. Since my wrists are weak, it is not easy for me to twist the carafe on and off its base. These are safety features not found in the Vita-Mix, but I think they are really good if you have children around the house who can get inquisitive. Because I do not have children around to protect anymore and these safety features make it difficult for me to use the HealthMaster, I plan to sell my unit as soon as I can afford a Vita-Mix. Otherwise, I would be very satisfied and do recommend this blender to friends who have enough space in their kitchens for it and want to make healthy smoothies. It is very affordable, very sturdy, very powerful, and very easy to clean!
Don't waste your time or money having to ship this product back! March 3, 2010 Jen (Denver, CO) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The product is horrible. It took literally 25 minutes to make 1 8 oz glass of veggie juice. It took so long and the machine is SUPER loud! Louder than any juicer or blender ever, you literally need ear plugs! It was huge, the base if much bigger than it looks on tv and takes up lots of counter space. It's very tall as well. I think that this is a horrible product, especially if you owned juicers in the past. the Jack Lalane is much better made. I had to waste $22 bucks shipping it back to the manufacturer for a refund. I was very excited to get it, but the results were VERY disappointing. I should have read the reviews first which I usually do.
Anyway, I hope this helps give you an accurate understanding of the product.
