2 out of 5 stars Doesn't Last Long   November 14, 2008
Annette Neeley (Ogden, UT)
It worked fine for what we needed it for. We had this little oven for a year and then one day it just stopped heating up and now it is just broken. I'm a KitchenAid fan too, but if seeing all the negatives on this product and how they treat customers requests for assistance I'm not sure I'll remain a fan.

I have had only 3 toaster ovens but that is enough for me to know how unique this oven is! I LOVE it! Now let me qualify...a lot of the criticism in other reviews is true: if you don't follow the preheat instructions - even for toast - you will not get a great result and the wildly sliding rack is crazy! BUT I bought this oven specifically because, after looking at all the models available in the local stores, I found this was the only one that was designed with proper cleaning in mind. I really wanted convection (which this is not) and I was worried about the larger size/required clearance (which make it a real space hog) but in the end I am not the least bit unhappy. I finally decided to take the plunge the last time I looked at my old oven interior directly under the bright over-sink light. Disgusting! It was impossible to clean well and therefore, over time, it became intolerable. This oven has 100% clearance on the glass door allowing you to clean it completely with no trouble at all. The black and stainless exterior surfaces probably hide more but also I think withstand more scrubbing. The very easily removable crumb tray is of high quality that can be scrubbed after every use. The teflon coated interior walls, while like all ovens are a little hard to access due to the heating elements, can still be effectively de-greased. So my recommendation is this - if the size is an issue you can't compromise on then don't get this one. But the other concerns: well you can probably live with. P.S. - I found that if I preheat and turn the toast over half-way through I get perfect results!

5 out of 5 stars Great Addition to my Kitchen!   October 13, 2008

I LOVE this countertop oven! It is such a nice addition to my kitchen- I love how I can use it to cook smaller things without having to use my great big oven. It is a big help when cooking a large meal that includes 2 "oven" items with different temperature requirements. (Great for Thanksgiving cooking!)

Simple design, and simple to use. I did call customer service once for clarification on some instruction, but they were very informative, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy to help. I was surprised at how knowledgeable they were on the product.

The product is very sturdy, and looks great on my countertop. I would definitely recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Only if you have the time to wait for it to warm up....   October 6, 2008

Very disappointed with this oven. I thought that I could work in the time that it takes for it to warm up into my breakfast routine, but it took about 7 minutes for it to get to temperature. Putting bread in any earlier makes warm bread, not toast. Once warm it works very well and if I were using it solely as an oven, I wouldn't have any complaints, but when I was looking to make a purchase, I searched for "toaster oven" and this came up. I made the purchase, even thought I read the reviews warning about this product mainly because the handle and finish matches perfectly my Kenmore elite appliances.

I am also disappointed because for $130 I would expect a little engineering to go into the slideout tray, either in the form of a hook that pulls the tray out when the door opens, or some kind of catch that keeps it from falling on the door when it is pulled out.

2 out of 5 stars kitchen aid fan but......   September 19, 2008
Margaret Doores (alaska)
I am such a huge fan but the counter top oven is terrible,I have had mine since christmas 2006 and it is not used very much however the lower elements are not working,I contacted kitchen aid and they say they have had no problems with any of these ovens, and unfortunately mine was manufactured in 2006 so I am out of luck but they will give me a discount if I want a new one. They went on to say they couldnt help me further because it would be unfair to other consumers.
Having seen all these reviews it seems there are some problems and I will be contacting them again
