Heavy, sturdy, and stylish, this ice-cream spade has a die-cast head for strength and durability, an enamel-like handle for beauty, and dishwasher safety for convenience. The spade's head is 4 inches long and 2-3/4 inches wide for digging into the hardest ice cream, and its handle is shaped for a firm grip and has a hanging hole in the end. This is great. Everything it should be. Rock hard ice cream does not stand a chance! My reason for 4 stars is this needs the KitchenAid scoop as a partner: used in a medium to small container, the spade carves out slices that kind of curl around and are sort of hollow, this is fine for my guy that eats a good size bowl (they layer on top of each other to make a semi-solid mound). For me the amount I want ends up in kinda uneven slices that are missing the "spoon factor" of a bowl of ice cream. i want 1 or 2 small solid scoops. So I bought the matching scoop and now feel i have it covered. They are both very well made, you can feel it when you pick them up.
KitchenAid delivers, just pick your color!

This thing is the real deal - it can break up even the hardest of gallons, and is way more ergonomic than the standard ice cream scoop. No ice cream "flakes" and no wrist tension when using this thing!
Definitely worth the price, and is dishwasher safe.

Pay attention to these reviews. You simply can't find a better ice cream scoop. We used a variety of other scoops including plastic, other metal, heavy spoons, etc. Nothing compares to this KitchenAid Spade. Nothing!

Like other reviews say, this is the best ice cream scoop ever (well, "spade"). I've had mine for 2 years now. No matter how cold or hard the icecream/yogurt is, the spade cuts right through. I considered getting the type that has anti-freeze type liquid which supposedly helps. I'm so glad that I got this Kitchen Aid spade - it works far better than any other scoop that I've tried. The handle is perfect as well, and the whole thing is well-balanced.
My mother-in-law has the Kitchen Aid "scoop" version. It's good, but I'd give it 4 stars. If you must have round ice cream balls for an ice cream cone, then you could get that, however the spade works much better for scooping ice cream, cutting through easily and scooping plenty. You could still make a "ball" if you really wanted to with the spade.
Definitely 5+ stars. I'd pay twice as much for it if required.
