Amazon.com Review
For a gift that's truly unique, wrap up the Sheartoku from KitchenAid. The gadget is a combination kitchen shears and santoku-the Asian-style knife that features hollows along the blade for quick release, and thus thin slices, of vegetables, meat, or seafood. Use the Sheartoku like a pair of scissors to cut easily through leafy greens such as parsley, lettuce, and chard, as well as through chicken breasts and steak to make strips for fajitas. Or, separate the blades and use the 5-inch santoku knife on its own to chop or slice vegetables and meat for stir-fry. Constructed of sharp, heavy-duty stainless steel, the blades are connected to an offset handle that facilitates cutting on a flat surface in the shears position. After use, the Sheartoku should be washed by hand. --Ann Bieri

3 out of 5 stars Kitchen Shears   June 29, 2008

This product is pretty good. They are heavy duty and will cut chicken, other meats and herbs. However they are not sharp enough to cut paper, plastic or other plastics and packaging efficiently. I was pleased with the heavy duty nature of the shears and they were as expected of a kitchenaid product. However, what wasn't expected was the rust spots that showed up on a stainless steel product after the first washing. Overall they are worth what I paid on Amazon, but I wouldn't repeat the buy regular retail.

5 out of 5 stars Coolest Kitchen Scissors Ever!   December 31, 2007

I saw these kitchen shears and since the price was great ($6) and I go through scissors in the kitchen like crazy, I ordered a pair. They are amazing!

They cut easily and cleanly. The handles are ergonomically designed and extremely comfortable. But the most unique feature is that they come apart. I love this!

Since I use kitchen shears for almost everything, including cutting cooked pizza, being able to take them apart for cleaning is wonderful and a real timesaver. But the best feature is that it's easy to take them apart and use a knife steel on the edge every time I use them to keep them sharp. If I do manage to nick the blades, I can easily sharpen them with the blades taken apart.

You can also use the Santoku side as a knife. As another reviewer noted, only one edge is sharp and the blade is pretty thick so it's not a great knife. But it will chop salad greens, cut butter, cut a sandwich in half, etc.

All in all, I think these are very sturdy kitchen shears at very attractive price. The unique features make this an easy choice if you need new shears.

5 out of 5 stars Cuts like a knife   August 14, 2007

I was very excited when I saw an ad for these shears and couldn't wait to get them home to try them for myself. The blade is sharp and cuts very cleanly. Blades come apart for easy cleaning, and since there is no hinge in the middle, as with normal shears, there is no rusting or stiffness at the joint. The product advertises that the santoku blade can be used alone, but obviously, the knife edge is only on the outside of the blade, so don't expect miracles, however, I tried it and it does cut reasonably well as a standalone blade. It has saved me from having to dig out a separate knife just to cut a stick of butter in half, for example. Cuts through thick items like jerky, and slim jims with ease and still soes a good job with more delicate items like fresh herbs. Overall, I love it!
