Adjust your beater to bowl clearance to eliminate chipping November 25, 2008 Momof 3 (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading these reviews, it is apparent that many people do not check their beater to bowl clearance. If a beater is chipping on the bottom, it means that it is too low. You can look in your use and care guide, or go to kitchenaid.com to watch a video on how to locate the adjustment screw. If the mixer doesn't incorporate the ingredients in the bottom of the bowl, then the beater is too far away from the bowl. If you have a tilt-head mixer, the adjustment screw is located in the neck of the mixer-in the hinge-when you lift up the head, you'll see it. You can place a dime in the bottom of the bowl, and turn the mixer to "stir". If the dime moves around continuously, it is too low. If it doesn't move at all, it is too high and can't reach everything. It should scoot the dime around the bowl 1/4-1/2" at a time. I've had my beater, which is used a lot, for about 5 years, and it has no chips. If you have a bowl lift mixer, the adjustment screw is behind the bowl clip. If it's adjusted properly, you get the best mixing and the least wear and tear on your beater and bowl. The adjustment can change slightly over time.
Don't put in dishwasher November 23, 2008 Kathleen Neumann This is the third of these I've had to buy. Certainly the KitchenAid does a wonderful job but I wish they would make these out of stainless like their other beater. The white coating chips and peals and falls into the food. Apparently it is because I've been putting it in the dishwasher. However, as far as ordering from Amazon goes, the beater arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I gave it four stars because it does a good job but it does not last as long as you would expect a KitchenAid product to last.
K45 Beater October 21, 2008 F. Bain This beater is working well. Our old one had lost the white covering, exposing the aluminum so it had to go. The coating on this one appears to be solid.
A fine replacement October 18, 2008 Alison A. (Phila, PA USA) I have owned my 4.5 qt Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer for 15+ years and have had excellent results. The beater is the only part that ever needed to be replaced and it was our fault. Someone (no one admits to the crime) placed the beater in the dishwasher next to a very sharp Henkel knife that sliced into its white coating. Once sliced, the coating peeled. So I finally broke down and replaced the beater attachment. I made pastry crust and biscuits the first day and my husband was thrilled to have the Mixer back in working order.
Quality Merchandise July 24, 2008 KAE D (California) I especially like this beater because I can clean batter off more easily with a spatuala because it is so open.
