Just got the Black Chrome Version July 8, 2008 msb50 Personally, I like the black chrome over the stainless steel. The stainless steel looked dirty, like it belonged in a garage or something. Other than that, I think the retro look is a little too retro. The knobs and switch look like something from Radio shack. They could have done a little better than that. At least I know where to get replacements. Yes the display is hard to read and yes water level indicator sucks, but do you want a coffee maker or a another clock in the kitchen, and don't you usually put the right amount of water in the pot first before you pour it in? Nitpicking stuff I think. Compared to my old Mr. Coffee (circa 1999) it makes coffee a little slower. The Mr. Coffee would do 8 cups in 7 minutes and this one took 10. As far as flavor, I will have to get the amount of coffee adjusted for this machine, but using the same amount as before made a weaker brew. You always go through the trial and error phase with a new machine, so I expected that. As far as the little things that I don't like (my turn to nitpick) The lid on the pot stinks and should have just been hinged. I guess I am also lazy so I don't like the gold filter idea. Too much bother to clean. I like just picking up the paper filter and dumping it in the trash or garden. Guess I'll be buying filters. I also found that the medium setting of the warmer is too hot for my taste. I like coffee I can drink, not blow on for the first 5 minutes, so I guess I'll use the low setting. But isn't it nice to have that choice available. I also like that you can program the auto shut off from zero to 4 hours..thats cool. Are the features worth the extra price compared to my old Mr. Coffee at $39. Probably. At least it looks good. Does it make good coffee? I don't know yet, but the initial thought is that it's nothing special, although the newer models of Mr. coffee that I have had coffee from really sucked in comparison. Thats why I bought this one instead. In the end, it's just a decent coffee maker, not a miracle machine.
Superior Coffeemaker July 5, 2008 Nicholas Roberts This is one of the best affordable coffeemakers on the market. It keeps coffee hot and doesn't leak out when you pull the carafe out from under the filter unit. The 4 cup option is also quite nice, as it quickly warms smaller amounts of coffee (1-4 cups). The functional interface is simple and elegant.
Great coffeemaker! July 4, 2008 Elaine A. Borawski (Cleveland, Ohio) Much has already been said about this coffeemaker. My only comment is that most of what has been said about the design "problems" are minimal and do not overshadow the great coffee that this machine makes. Before buying I read all the reviews and found nearly every comment true -- you can't see the clock well, you have to have some room above the coffee maker to add the water easily, etc -- and that's what I love about these reviews. We all notice little things about the stuff we buy. So, there were no surprises with this machine once I got it home. I went with the overriding comment that this machine makes a great, hot, cup of coffee and indeed it does. Very pleased with the purchase and even more pleased that there are sites like this one where we can weigh all the pros and cons before purchasing. Thanks to all that went before me!
wonderful machine! July 1, 2008 Elizabeth A. Jerome (Fullerton, Ca) I love this coffee maker. It is nice looking, doesn't drip while pouring, fast, easy to use. Only one complaint is the basin that you fill with water is small, I am tempted to get a funnel. I'd recommend it to others w/o a doubt!
This is a great coffee maker June 30, 2008 Sheri Goetsch (Napa, CA) This is a great coffee maker. I really like the glass carafe. My previous model had thermal carafe and never thought the coffee was hot enough or strong enough and it was a pain to fill the carafe with hot water to warm it up before I brewed a pot. Back to this coffee maker - this coffee maker makes great hot coffee - yes! It is easy to use and to clean. I read all the reviews and I must say that people are passionate about coffee makers so it was very helpful to read both the good and bad reviews to make a selection on the right machine. The coffee was hot, the machine is easy to program, clean, use.
