All reviews point to same design flaw March 20, 2008 Lao Che (Central New York) I have enjoyed the convenience of the space saving design of this microwave for the time we have had it. We have the black unit instead of the stainless steel. However, the coffee combo part of the unit has been defective from the start. To start with the coffee maker would leak when we would set it up over night unless we were extremely careful about sliding it back into place. Then, the handle broke off the coffee pot when we were simply cleaning it. We were only filling it with water and the handle snapped. We tried to seek customer support online, which was very difficult to find. We got a standard email back telling us to call their 800 number. The "customer service representatives" stated that we could purchase another coffee pot from them for $55.81 (prior to tax and shipping). This is outrageous because that is more than half of what we paid for the unit on sale at our local retailer. When we asked them to justify the hefty cost of replacing the carafe, they stated, "we do not have an answer for that." We can buy a whole new coffee maker and several pounds of coffee for that price! We will never buy any LG product again because of the hassles we have had with this microwave.
A great idea by LG February 17, 2007 cypherer (SC, USA) I bought one of these last week and so far I am very happy with it. The microwave works well and is easy to use. The display prompts you with instructions for operation. The coffee maker makes a very good cup of coffee. It takes 5-10 minutes to brew a pot of about six cups. The pot size is about right for me as I am the only coffee drinker in the house. One of the greatest things is that it only uses half the coffee that I was using in my faithful old Bunn coffee maker to make six cups. It came with odd shaped filters but I have found that I can fold standard filters to fit it just fine. The coffee pot is glass not stainless as it appears in some pictures but it is pretty heavy glass and seems sturdy enough. The only negative that I have found is that you can't brew coffee and use the microwave at the same time. Since the coffee maker is fairly fast it has not been a problem for me.
The carafe is defective September 3, 2006 C. Komora (FL United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I purchased this item from an appliance store in my city. Though pictured here (and elsewhere) with a stainless steel carafe, it actually comes with a glass pot with a plastic black handle. The carafe has a defect and breaks easily while cleaning the inside due to pressure from a screw attaching a steel rim to the bottom of the pot. I called LG after my first pot cracked, and was told a replacement glass pot would be $56! Because it was still under warranty, they offered me a "one-time complimentary replacement", but I didn't receive it for over 10 weeks (and several phone calls) after that. The same cracking problem occured the first time I tried to clean the second pot (other than just rinsing with water). This time, I noticed that online the pictures seemed to show a stainless steel pot. So I called LG parts to see if I could order the stainless steel carafe, and was told that there is not such a thing. So, although the convenience of having a combo appliance was great, the hassle of replacing a defective, yet highly overpriced carafe every couple of months is not worth it. I feel that this product would be worth it if it actually DID come with a stainless steel carafe, but don't count on it.
