This is an excellent guitar REGARDLESS of your income, but when I saw this at a local Super K-Mart in an area I used to live in, I was in need of putting it on layaway. Plus, because it was so cheap, I checked it out. This is my first and only acoustic guitar. It's perfect for practicing when you don't feel like plugging up your electric guitar, to bring wherever without killing your back too much (provided that you use the right guitar backpack), nice and lightweight. It's even the right size for not-so-tall people (I'm only 5'3").
I HIGHLY recommend this. You'll love the sound on here enough where you may have trouble putting it down!

I bought this guitar about a year ago hoping to just learn the basics of playing. When I first brought it home I didn't stop playing for days. Though it eventually got boring playing. I tried to learn how to play from the enclosed book, but the book goes to fast, and it's just too hard for any beginner such as me to learn. The strings are a fairly big issue. The thin strings break often as for any guitar, but the thicker ones break more than they should. They only give you one extra string so when my second string broke I had to take it to a shop to get some more. They asked me if they could look at it. I let them. After visualizing it they said that it was a crappy guitar. So if you are just a beginner, or are just looking for some fun, then this guitar is okay. Though if you are serious about playing go to a local Kennaly Keys or Yamaha. They have good deals there and quality instruments. I've gotten my drum set there and my brother got his base guitar there and we love em! Please consider what I said.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Musical Instrument, NOT a Toy!   January 3, 2004

My 2 year old saw this in BJs and kept asking for it, so Santa brought it for him for Christmas. I think it's a good first guitar. He loves to strum it, but he definitely needs to be supervised to teach him to respect that it is a special musical instrument, not a toy. So far he has sat on it and used it as a drum and it's held up fine, but I don't think it would hold up with such continued abuse. It is recommended for children much older than he is, so I can't expect anything different. I do wish they made a smaller version of it so it would be more comfortable for him. For a better price than I see at Amazon, you can get a small Hohner guitar at a music store, which might be better quality, I'm not sure. Regardless, I am very happy with this guitar and I would recommend it for any child who shows a real interest in music. I would not buy it for a child just as a toy, unless you don't mind it being destroyed. I am planning to buy the guitar strap and will review that when I get it.
