Product Description Despite its name, this tool does not actually sharpen your knives but works exactly like a sharpening steel to maintain the aligned edge on all your pieces of fine cutlery. Hold the black plastic handle in your left hand and draw your knife edge through the V. An essential tool for keeping your knives in tiptop form. Carries the Henckels lifetime warranty.
Amazon.com Review Despite its name, this tool doesn't truly sharpen a knife. It's an alternative to a knife, or "butcher," steel. Like a steel, it performs the vital task of realigning, or "resetting," a knife's edge, which bends this way and that when contacting a cutting surface or other hard object. Because it employs steel and ceramic wheels to do the work on a knife's edge, it can grind a bit of steel off the blade. But that's more a polishing, or honing, than an actual sharpening. It's simple to use: grasp the curved grip with the left hand--left-handers must do it this way, too--and draw a knife through a V-shaped slot toward the body with the right hand. --Fred Brack

Damages knife edge June 11, 2008 count_zero (US-Florida) I have had one of these about 5-6 years. In the last year it took "bites" out of two good knive blades. Beware. Evidently not all are bad - see reviews - but obviously some are. Why risk it. Try a Furi sold here.
good for everyday use April 6, 2008 All-inMom (Houston,TX) I've used this several times for a week & so far I'm happy with the result. My knifes are not really dull but I sharpen them often to keep them sharp & you can tell the difference after using the sharpener
Horrible - Save up and buy a Chef's Choice M130 instead! March 4, 2008 M. Ledbetter (Oklahoma City, OK) We purchased this sharpener with our J.A. Henckels Pro S knives and over the last 3-4 years our knives have steadily become more rough edged and poor cutting. Today I got our new Chef's Choice M130. It is fantastic. No "nails on the chalkboard" feeling while dragging the blade through the sharpener, no rough edge on the blade. In fact it restored our knives to a better than factory new edge. I am 100% satisfied with the new sharpener. It cost $139, but it was WELL worth it for a great set of knives. We welcome the return of a truly sharp edge!
Perfect sharpener if you are careful February 13, 2008 Craig Depies (Milwaukee, WI) Lightly pass your knife a couple times through the sharpener (even scissors). My Henckels are like razors after using the sharpener.
A must have! January 7, 2008 M. O. Brien (Florida) This is a must have to keep your knives sharp! Easy and comfortable to use and at a reasonable price!
