Amazon.com Review If you're pickling and jam-making come late summer, Progressive's canning set offers five tools that will greatly simplify the process. Progressive's jar lifter has wide, contoured, vinyl-coated tongs, allowing you to get a tight grip around jars and lift them out of hot water without breaking them or burning yourself, and the plastic-coated handles keep hands cool. The magnetic lid lifter, a long plastic wand with a magnet on one end, safely extracts lids from boiling water. An extra set of vinyl-coated tongs is great for removing blanched fruits, such as tomatoes or peaches, from boiling water. The kit's plastic funnel has a small enough spout for any canning jar--and an extra-wide mouth to prevent splatter when you're pouring hot jam. The final accessory is a nonslip, vinyl-coated jar wrench. None of the items are dishwasher-safe; clean them by hand with soap and water. --Cristina Vaamonde

Great....but..... June 24, 2008 Mathman (CHICAGO) The canning set was pretty good. No home canner can be without good tools - especially the jar grabber. Oh! You can kiss goodbye those horrible memories of trying in vain to get those jars out of the boiling water with your bare hands. BUT there is one drawback to the set. The tools are a little short for my tastes. For anyone who cans seriously, you'll know that the tools need to be long enough not to have to touch the water. The can lifter is not quite long enough to do much of anything. With that being said, this is a pretty great starter set for anyone just getting into canning.
Great for occasional canning June 23, 2008 Nanda Filkin (Athens, OH United States) This kit works great for the ocaasional canner. The magnet wand is a bit pathetic but all of the other implements work great. I used them for canning tomatoes.
Canning Tools June 2, 2008 Phillip A. Williams (Augusta, GA) This ia a very handy collection of the basic tools needed to make home canning safe and easy. Great price and certainly much less expensive than those in stores. While these are not professional grade items they are certainly more than adequate for the casual home canner. A great place to start and should last many years.
Good basic starting kit for canning April 30, 2008 Crystal Dugan (Falls Church, VA) I used this kit to can my first batch of strawberry jam and I must say I was very satisfied with it. It's a basic set, containing a funnel, lid magnet, tongs, jar wrench, and rounded clamp thingy. I found the clamp thing to be the most useful, to the point where I would have a really hard time with the process without it, but the funnel was also very handy and fit the pint jars perfectly. As it's also very affordable, I would say that no one who wants to can or make preserves should be without this kit!
This is junk March 29, 2008 James N. Ang (Grand Forks, ND USA) You get what you pay for with this product; a poorly made/assembled group of tools used for canning. I would recommend spending a little more on a better quality canning kit. When I opened the package a rivet (that was supposed to be holding the can extractor together) fell out of the box. Unfortunately that was the main tool I needed, and I had to improvise.
