Product Description Cooks lighter meals, healthier, fast and easy. 3 to 10 times faster than ordinary methods - faster than a microwave. Chicken, fish, vegetables and more cook to perfection in minutes. Tenderizes leaner cuts of beef and pork. Quick steam release. Stainless steel steamer basket
Amazon.com Review Pressure cookers have experienced renewed popularity over the last several years because cooks have rediscovered what some cooks (particularly grandmas) have known for a long time--they're really fast. And it's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor. Presto's 8-quart pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! And it's big enough for home canning, too. (The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry.) This professional-quality stainless steel pressure cooker is a handy addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools. The heavy-duty lid locks down during cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. This pressure cooker is useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains 75 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even desserts like Petite Pumpkin Custards! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork; or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture. Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this stainless steel pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 8-quart pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 10-1/2 inches in diameter (15-1/2 inches including handles) and 8-1/2 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

works great May 12, 2008 N. Aragona (New York) works great, cleans up easy, roomy - I have always owned 6 quart pressure cookers. Since the family is growing I decided to get the 8 and I am very happy with this one
Saving valuable time! May 12, 2008 L. Cuffey This pressure cooker is a life saver for me! My days are usually hectic including meetings, team planning and sometimes travel. In the past I would resort to preparing processed food which caused and unhealthy diet and weight gain for my family. No more of that--now delicious nutritious meals are ready in half the time, I am delighted. Also, I received my product before the delivery date.

My first pressure cooker is presto aluminum 8QT. I like it very much. But after buying a new cooktop, I didn't dare to use aluminum ccookware. So I turn to SS(Stainless Steel) 8QT. I prefer long one hand handle, but presto didn't have SS pressure cooker with one handle. During X'mas, I purchase a ss 6QT as gift to my mother-in-low. She has a 8 QT already, and she always say that's too big for her. She and I really like the ss 6QT, and I plan to buy one when it's on sale. Recently I buy another ss 8qt for my mom. (the pressure cooker I talk about here are all Presto) I know there are many good brand pressure cookers in the market and there are really expensive. I'm not a prefessional cook. I'm a housewife and I cook everyday. For me, Presto is good enough.
Excellent quality and instructions; 8 qt is a good size April 17, 2008 Acontius (Florida) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We are first time pressure cookers! Just received this and immediately put it to use making oxtail soup. Fantastic. What use to take 2.5 hours today took only 55 mins. (Meaning we started at 6:00 and were ready to eat at 7:00 instead of 8:30.) Plus, surprisingly, the carrots we put in at the begining came out intact and tasty, not mushy and flavorless as we had expected. The oxtails were cooked just right: the meat slid off and we were able to nibble quite a bit of the softened bones (which are a great source of easily digestible calcium). Tomorrow we will make collard greens (20 mins), and the day after that...who knows? My wife and I are stoked and glad we took the plunge. The instructions that came with the Presto are excellent. Wondering whether to get a smaller one? We are very happy we got an 8qt model because the instructions clearly say not to fill over 2/3 for meats, soups, and stews, or 1/2 way for beans. Smaller would cramp our style. Tonight we ended up with 3 qts of oxtail soup to freeze--after completely stuffing ourselves with what we just made fresh. That was using two pounds of oxtails, lots of vegetables, and enough water to fill the cooker 1/2 way. The quality of the stainless steel pot and lid seems great. The pot is very heavy and works well for browning meat. My uncle has had his pressure cooker for about six years and has replaced the gaskets twice. I think as long as we are careful not to bang the plastic handles or drop the pressure knob, this should last a very, very long time. I will report back here if there are any significant changes to our satisfaction.
