We have had the Braun blender for about a month and it is excellent for blending frozen drinks and smoothies. It does a better job than our 10-year old Oster.
However, it did not work well for mixing batter but we have a mixer for that (and that's not why we bought this product).
I read the reviews about people having problems with the bottom breaking (the part that hooks the motor to the blade speed). The bottom is made of plastic and the design could be better. With that in mind, we just watch how fast we increase or decrease speeds -- no problems yet.
We use this for smoothies and frozen drinks. The first speed is really all you need as that does a great job of crushing ice or chopping fruit.
We did try to mix brownie batter in it and it did not do a great job. When we moved it up to speed 5 I did notice a smell coming from the motor. However, we own a mixer so that is what we'll use for mixing batters.
So for blending this is an excellent product!

I chose this blender from magazine reviews that said it was the only one that would also crush ice. It does. I'm satisfied with it for all uses, and I like that it has a glass container (so many of them don't), even though I have a tendency to break things!

After having this blender a little over a year, it started to leak at the bottom. I realized at once what the problem was - the o-ring that provided the seal between the jug and the base was wearing out and needed to be replaced. When I went out to buy a new one, however, I quickly found it was impossible. I haven't been able to find one online or off. The only thing I can find is a completely new base/blade/o-ring combination, which I don't need. This is still a perfectly good blender, including the base and blade. All I need is a new o-ring - which I can't buy alone. So, right now, I have a useless blender, because I can't use it for anything liquid, as it all just seeps right out the bottom. I am going to be buying a new blender, from another company. I do not plan on ever buying anything from Braun again. I am disgusted that they would try to make a customer buy a whole new base assembly, or new blender, instead of letting you buy a simple, small part. What a waste of resources and money!

It easily chops ice. We have used it for smoothies, soups etc. Probably not the best gourmet blender out there but for practical purposes...excellent.

This blender makes wonderful Smoothies....grinds every piece of ice to a super-smooth consistancy. So far, have had no problems with the bottom gear breaking. I recommend this blender highly.
