5 out of 5 stars Super Fast   January 14, 2008

My wife and I both love the beehive. It works super fast and is powerful. Yes, a tad loud....but seriously it gets the job done so fast that is why it is making that noise. :)

2 out of 5 stars Why Put a Junk Lid on a Quality Blender?   October 28, 2007

This is a simple, two-speed blender that seems solid and does the job for most uses. The lid assembly, however, is a piece of cheap junk that absolutely does NOT live up to the Oster name. I can't tell you whether this is due to their using a cheaper plastic material or because the lid is so much thinner than those of previous Oster blenders I have owned, but please believe me when I say the lid is flimsy. You have to keep your hand on the lid, especially when starting the blender, to prevent it from blowing right off and creating a mess. Furthermore, the flimsy plastic softens a LOT when you are working with hot foods.

I was pureeing warm tomatoes and soon discovered that the little clear plastic cap in the lid's center would no longer lock into place. Wanting to finish the job, I continued. Moments later, the clear plastic cap slipped through the softened lid and dropped into the blender, where it was quite efficiently chopped and blended into my tomatoes.

Why did Oster have to cut corners like this on what is otherwise a nice product? For shame! Incidentally, a replacement center cap cost me $2.50 at an authorized repair center. Grrr!

4 out of 5 stars effective but LOUD   August 2, 2007

This is a great-looking, great-operating, sturdy, no-fuss blender. I'm satisfied with its performance and durability, and I love its great looks. The only drawback, as others have mentioned, is it is LOUD. I definitely think it could cause permanent hearing loss. It is no exaggeration that I wear hearing protection when I use it, so keep that in mind if you're considering it. (You can get cheap, effective earplugs at a drug store.)

3 out of 5 stars Loud Enough To Cause Permanent Hearing Loss   July 2, 2007

- yes this blender is effective
- yes it is sturdy
- but it is loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss
- do you keep earmuffs or earplugs in your kitchen?
- the cause of the noise IS the metal drive mechanism and the electric
motor
- it would be easy to add some sound insulation to the housing, and
in my opinion as an M.D. this shouldn't be sold without it

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best blender I've ever owned   May 13, 2007
C.T. (Harrisburg, PA United States)
I've had this blender for a little under a year now. I'm on a diet plan that requires me to make three milkshakes a day. I've been making my three shakes a day for almost 2 MONTHS and my little blender works like a champ. The blade knob that sits on the base (to which you attach the jar)is metal, not plastic like many other cheaper blenders I've owned. The black base of the jar is easy to unscrew and pull out from the jar for easy cleaning. The lid is nice and tight, but not so much that you break fingernails trying to pry it off the jar. And best of all... this GRATES ICE like you wouldn't believe! I'm absolutely thrilled with this blender. Yes, it is loud. I've used a Cuisineart in the past, which was much quieter than my Oster, but I have to say it didn't chop the ice as well, leaving my shakes with a grittier consistancy. My shakes come out smooth -I'm talking Ice Cream Shop quality. I highly recommend this blender to ANYONE. I just pray that Oster still makes it when mine is kaput.
