1 out of 5 stars Noisy, brutish, and short   October 26, 2005

I have owned and used several immersion blenders made by Braun and GE, and figured I would try the low end ones. The first I bought from Walgreen's for $10 and it was noisy and vibrated to the point that my hand became numb, so I returned it.

This blender
* is more noisy than the GE and Braun ones
* can be immersed in no more than 4" of liquid
* requires that "food must be chopped into 1/2 inch pieces before use" according to the instruction manual
* contains LEAD: the blender includes a warning tag saying that the cord contains lead and so one must wash hands after handling it, which seems unsafe for a food preparation product. In preparing a large meal with lots of dishes, it's not rare for the the cord to fall into the food. Certainly, one might touch the cord and then touch the food.

As with most safety regulations, it is hard to know how dangerous it really is for the cord to contain lead, but given that I have never seen such a warning tag on any other product, even the $10 Walgreen's blender, it doesn't make sense to take the risk.

I make a lot of protein drinks every week. This is so much faster than getting out the blender and clean up is quick and easy. I make 15 at a time and store them in single serve containers in the refridgerator. I do notice that the handle gets hot by the time I reach the last one, but I have not noticed any other problems. You can't beat the price on this item for the time it saves in clean up and speed of blending.

i didn't have an immersion blender--something to beat eggs, mix cold drinks, fix lumpy gravy--and all my bud's have one, so a Very-Well-Informed Friend recommended this model. he claims most folks don't like 'em, and the fancy one's charge for silly attachments that you don't need or don't work, so might as well go for cheap; the Toastmaster's as good as any, for the amount of usage. i dunno. it's seems okay. perhaps a little heavy, but the voluptuous shape and suction help hold it in place, and that's a sign of better constuction. the owner' guide says not to use it for hot liquids, what i was hoping to try it for (like an automatic stirrer), but it's a dangerous thing to do anyway.

We used this for several months until it started leaking oil mysteriously and eventually the blend spindle separated from the motor, rendering it useless.

I have this unit. After a few uses, the rocker switch broke. It is a very simple plastic rocker, and is too flimsy to withstand even light usage. I have written to Toastmaster for parts, but I am not optimistic on a $13 item.

UPDATE. Toastmaster ignored my letter and I tossed it out. I bought a Braun at Tuesday Morning for an incredible price.
