It is a luxury not to have to boil water on the stove top, which can be a fire hazard if you forget to turn it off. This product shuts off automatically and is totally safe.
Electric kettle of my dreams September 30, 2008

We've had the Breville electric kettle for about a month and so far it's great. It's sturdy, attractive, fast, and has a nice, large capacity. It's got an appealing blue light to show it's on, and you can see your water heating up and coming to a boil. The "water's ready" ding is pleasant but audible.

i first purchased the SK550 model. in less than 3 uses it had to be returned for warranty repair/replacement. when they sent it back, guess what, they sent me the SK500 model.
i didn't have problems with the unit initially - not even the bad smell that seems to impact a lot of people. however, just as soon as the warranty period is over - BOOM - the unit stopped working.
i am a household of one - i used it only several times a week - not every day. so for it to go out on me in that short period of time is a waste. i liked it otherwise and it looked good. now i'm really debating if i should get another one. really have doubts though.

We really like this procuct. It heats the water fast, it isn't loud and is easy to use. Not one complaint from my family. (Lots of teenagers) I would definitely recommend this product to others. Rhonda

This kettle does what it's advertised to do. It boils water very quickly, it's very convenient to use and it looks great. My only criticism, and it's a small one, is that the automatic shut-off feature takes a little too long to activate, allowing the water to boil for a few more seconds before shutting down.
