1 out of 5 stars Worst. Coffeemaker. Ever.   July 18, 2008

So, my beloved Cuisinart was broken. I decided to get the Braun KF590 because my brother had one. He had bought it because of its sleek looks and speedy coffee making ability. My brother and I share a love of coffee, so I figured if it was a good choice for him, it would be good for me, too.

However, within hours of pressing the Amazon "order" button, my brother informed me that he was tossing his Braun KF590 because its pause & serve function didn't work and would leak coffee all over the counter. He owned his for 2 years.

I received mine a few days after this news. The very first time, I used the Braun KF590, I had a waterfall of hot coffee dripping from my counter onto the floor. I didn't even use the pause & serve function!!!!

I only made coffee with it three more times because I thought my previous coffeemaker (Cuisinart) was broken. Lucky for me, the Cuisinart needed a thorough decalcifying because the Braun flooded my kitchen with coffee each time I used it.

This coffeemaker is back in its original box, sitting on a basement shelf as a reminder that German engineering is not always a good thing. I consider this item to be a total waste of my money and time.

I will never buy a Braun coffeemaker again!!!

5 out of 5 stars Braun's the best!   July 17, 2008

This is my 2nd Braun. My first one was lovingly used until it just quit on me. In desperation, I needed a quick coffeemaker, and ran to the local discount store for a Black and Decker. After two years of the B&D, I got tired of mediocre, lukewarm coffee and decided to try a Braun again. I'll never again NOT have a Braun. The quality, the purified water, the gold filter, and the temperature of the coffee will always keep me as a fan and loyal user. I didn't know what I was missing until I went back to the Braun. The KF590 is just right.

4 out of 5 stars Great little pot!   July 17, 2008

I replaced a Braun KF180 FlavorSelect 12-Cup Coffeemaker with this coffeepot.
I wish they didn't discontinue the KF180, but the KF590 makes just as good a cup of coffee as my old one.

I like that you can remove the whole basket for more convenient filling of the coffee and that the top where the water goes opens from the front and not the back. On the 180 I had to almost turn the pot all the way around to fill it.

I can't figure out why the little hole on the back under the lid is there...if you overfill it with water, it leaks out.

When pouring coffee or water from the carafe when it's full, it tends to leak unless you pull the lid almost all the way open, not a big deal I guess, but my husband always leaks coffee when he pours the first cup in the morning.

The coffee is always steaming hot, even though there's no temp control like my old one.

As far as keeping water in it all night to brew on the timer in the morning...my old one began to leak water out in the night after a few years of use...corrosion from the water probably. I'm hoping this one doesn't do that.

Lastly, I'm disappointed that Braun doesn't make a 12 cup pot anymore.
Other than that, I'm happy with the pot, it's function and the flavor and temperature of the coffee.

5 out of 5 stars exactly as advertised   July 14, 2008

We've had some bad luck with coffee makers in the past. I decided to order the Braun because I had always heard good reviews. It's an excellent coffee maker: easy to use, coffee is delicious and piping hot! I would recommend to anyone!

This coffeemaker makes good coffee very fast and is easy to clean. It is also good looking on my countertop.
