Perky Pipen' NOT Hot February 2, 2008 Michael Couture 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Maybe we hold the record. Our 40616 failed 2 months AFTER the warranty expired. Same thing, thermostat. You have to be VERY careful when you put the stem into the bottom. A little off center and you get luke warm tea. Maybe I'll see if I can get thermostat. Mike
LEAKY PERCOLATOR December 21, 2007 F. J. Alipour 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just bought this percolator after my Melita one quit on me....2 days out of the box and the bottom is already leaking--yes the coffee is excellent, piping hot, however it is leaking a slow leak onto my kitchen counter top. I'm taking it back and trying another brand. Disappointed.
Great coffee until it stopped working - Unit replaced and so far it works great!!!! November 8, 2007 P. Kelso (Washington DC) I have experienced the same problem as others have reported - The percolator simply stopped working. Except that for me it stopped working after about 10 uses (10 days old). I am so dissapointed with it not working anymore because the coffee tastes so much better with this unit than with the other type coffee makers. I can say, though, that Hamilton Beach has a great customer service department and they have handled my complaint promptly. There was no hold time when I called. I gave my information and they asked me to fax the receipt in to them. They called me back within an hour of having it faxed and asked me to mail in the power cord only so they could send a replacement at no cost to me. I should have the replacement in a week or so. Hopefully I will have better luck with the other unit, but if not, I bought the amazon replacement plan as suggested by another person who reviewed this item. I know it is a problem to be returning units, but it is good to know that I can count on it being replaced each and everytime it breaks. Edited by me 1/2/08 - I received the other unit promptly after talking to Hamilton Beach Customer Service. They paid for shipping and all. I have used it religiously since I received it (at least twice a day) and it has worked perfectly!!!! No problems at all. Coffee continues to turn out great, very tasty and very hot.
Good Coffee with No Plastic Residue November 1, 2007 William M. Phillips (Oakland, TN USA) Stainless steel insures good taste. I bought it to avoid plastic affecting the taste and my health. The only drawback in having a percolator is that drip grind coffee is about all you can find (without grinding your own) and drip grind will leave some grounds in the bottom.
Makes great coffee when it works! October 20, 2007 Chris (Rockbridge,OH) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
We are currently using our third Hamilton Beach percolator, the previous two having failed after 6 months each due to defective thermostats. The first two were replaced under warranty, but obviously the long term prospects for this coffee pot don't look good. We had the same problem with the Farberware percolators which is why we switched to the Hamilton Beach. Perhaps they are made by the same Chinese company? Does anyone make high quality, made in the USA consumer appliances?
