5 out of 5 stars Great press and wonderful customer service   March 27, 2008

I owned a similar product, the Bodum Columbia insulated press Bodum Columbia 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot for 3 years, and I decided to switch to the Frieling press a few weeks ago. The Bodum has a filter that has a plastic housing and is surrounded by a silicone flap, and the silicone had worn off over time, allowing grounds to get into my coffee. In addition, the plastic absorbed coffee smell over time, making fresh coffee smell old.

The Frieling press has several advantages:

1. All parts are stainless steel. There is no plastic to wear out, break, or absorb odors, and there's no glass to break. It looks and feels well-made.
2. It keeps my coffee warm for maybe twice as long as the Bodum.
3. The filter screen has a smooth edge. I originally bought the Bodum press because the screens on other presses had rough edges that would fray or poke me when I washed them. Bodum fixed the problem by surrounding the screen with plastic, but Frieling takes the common sense option of just hemming it. Smart.
4. It fully disassembles for cleaning.
5. Replacement parts are available through their website.
6. It makes great coffee.

When the press arrived, the connection between the rod and the metal plunger was funky. It wouldn't tighten down all the way, as though the threads didn't quite match. I didn't want to have a whole new press shipped - that seemed wasteful - so I emailed Frieling. They were courteous and apologetic, and they sent me replacement parts within an hour of my emailing them. The parts arrived in perfect condition, and they worked. There are plenty of companies out there that don't stand by their products and treat their customers like they don't matter, so that means a lot to me.

I highly recommend that you buy this press.

3 out of 5 stars Less than I expected   March 21, 2008

I was expecting more from this 'deal', but I have to agree with other reviewers who think a glass french press works fine. I often get grounds in the coffee, and although I like the thermal feature, I still end up nuking a cup later on. It's sleek, pretty, and good for company, but overall I'm disappointed in the extra features for the extra price. Live and learn, I guess.

THis product is nice looking but average quality, however, Amazon sells one called Nissan Thermos coffee press that is out of this world and very chic setting on your desk! Price wise cheaper than this one and on sale right now for $29.00! Check it out!!! I own two and all my friends that love coffee have one! Great way to have your own pot of coffee on your desK!

We use this french press at the coffee shop I work at. They work pretty well. You don't get as many grounds floating around the top, and the coffee will stay hot for quite a while.
When you're filling it with hot water, leave about an inch from the top; otherwise you'll get grounds in your coffee.
We use 61grams and let the grounds sit in hot hot hot water for about 4 minutes. Then we press it and pour away!

5 out of 5 stars IAM SO HAPPY WITH MY NEW FRENCH PRESS !!!! IT WORKS GRRRRRRREAT   February 8, 2008

I was somewhat apprehensive to try a french press but it seemed regular brewed coffee just was not doing it for me anymore....i wanted taste! I tried espresso thinking i just graduated to stronger coffee but it wasnt what I was looking for...espresso just has more cafeine per amount and to me taste nasty. Well my sister got a french press and told me that was the way to go for the rich taste i wanted since it extracts the oils from the beans best. Made sense. Well i researched and reasearched on line and even interviewed people: 2 starbuck workers and a few customers ha ha ha! I am a very choosey consumer....well after months of searching I found this Frieling Stainless Steel French Press !! (my new best friend) I was willing to pay a little more cause i wanted quality that would last and this one has it. No other had the all stainless steel parts....in reading reviews others complained some french presses had plastic plunges that broke, filters that broke and didnt filter the coffee so that there were many grinds in the cup, or didnt stay sealed when plunged etc. So i knew the material was important. Plus this one is doubly insulated..important since many complained those pretty fancy glass ones did not keep the coffee hot (remember theres no plug in). I did end up contacting the company cause in one of the reviews some one said they couldnt find a replacement filter and didnt therefore think it was worth it to buy....well they were WRONG the people contacted me the very next day to inform me i could indeed order a replacement filter when i needed it so then i was set. I ordered it and it came fast and well packed. the only thing i was surprised about was the fact that it advertised as an 8 cup press so i assumed it would be pretty big ya know but it wasnt...its a 4 cup by american standards....since its from Sweden (i think) no doubt they advertised european sizes? I was a little disappointed but kinda glad cause the size is so cute and its very beautiful!

Like i said i was a little nervous to try a new way of making coffee but ya know it was so fun...and once you get the steps down its easy. The instructions are included and easy to understand. This is exactly what I do:\ I get my coffeee from walmart whatever brand, cause the french press makes any coffee better. I use their grinder to grind the beans under the french press level (important). Take it home, use my old electric coffee pot to heat up the water while at the same time pour hot water from the tap into the coffee pot (like a thermos it heats up the unit) I measure the exact coffee amount for the 4 cups it makes. I keep a glass cup that holds exactly the amount of coffee i need for a pot.. Pour out the hot water from the tap put in the grinds and then pour in the water heated from my other pot to the top leaving at least 2 inches from the top (for when you plunge it doesnt squirt out very important) take a long spoon and stir..let sit for 4 minutes exactly with top on then plunge slow and steady wala done and ready to pour. Delish!! I hightly recommend this french press its pretty makes the best coffee i ever had! Happy plunging!!!
