Great Grill April 7, 2008 J. Mingle (Smyrna, TN, USA) After researching several grills, I decided upon this one. I've only used it twice, but I've been really happy with it's performance. I like the fact that it has a timer, so I won't burn my food when I get busy with something else. One reviewer commented on the grill tabs not being clearly marked so they stand out, and I'll agree on that after burning my fingers....guess I'll just have to pay closer attention to the position of the grill before it gets hot. All in all, though, it's a nice grill. Oh, one more thing. Even though the grills are removeable, I wouldn't wash them in the dishwasher because they are aluminum and they get that funky corroded look on the back where there isn't any teflon coating. Better to just wash them by hand, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars.
Love it more everyday February 19, 2008 C. Chang (Pittsburgh, PA) I have compared all the products out in the market to get a new grill with removable plates to replace my another still-new George grill. This is the best and also the cheapest you can find. My suggestion is to tilt the grill a little bit while operating so that the liquid can drain more quickly and your meat will burn more beautifully. I put two metal caps under the left legs. The downstream part of the grill is too deep to make well contact with the food, but it's a good place to cook baby carrots. The machine is kind of heavy and big though. But it should be quite durable if you don't drop it.
Owned for over 4 years so far... January 27, 2008 Sherry (Mt Pleasant, PA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this grill in December 2003. At that time, I don't think George Foreman was even offering a grill yet that offered removable plates. I owned a small GF grill and loved it...except for the dreaded, despicable cleanup. Because of this awful chore, I rarely used it more than once or twice a week. When I found this product, I was excited about the possibility of easy cleanup and immediately ordered it. I love the larger size of the grill. But the best thing is the removable grill plates. By the time we finish a meal, they are usually cooled off, and I put them right into the dishwasher. I remember the days of cleaning my GF grill with multiple paper towels and a toothbrush, so this is the best feature of this grill for me. Because of the easy cleanup, I use it quite a bit, for things such as burgers, steaks, pork chops, chicken, fish, grilled vegetables, etc. I also like the design of the grease drip tray. Instead of being easy to knock over, it easily slides in and out of the grill. As far as cleaning the appliance itself (minus the grill plates), I just run a damp cloth or sponge over it after it has cooled, to wipe off any little grease splatters. Every once in awhile, I'll use a Clorox wipe, and give it a really good wiping all over. It never LOOKS dirty because it is black, but the Clorox wipe usually cleans up a bit of unseen grunge. Like all grills of this type, you have to preheat it for about 5 minutes before use. The grill plates do get VERY hot, so I always use a long handled plastic fork or spatula for safety. If and when this ever dies on me, I'll definitely buy another one.
Great Grill! January 26, 2008 Teacher 85 I bought this grill for my parents for Christmas, and they love it! They said one of the best features of the grill was the removal grids. Because the grids are removable, it eliminates scraping the Teflon to remove excess fat. When they cooked burgers on it, the burgers remained juicy, but not greasy. They said the only drawback was that things cannot be slid off the grill onto a plate, such as grilled vegetables. Everything has to be lifted off instead, but I think that is a minor inconvenience to everything else the grill has to offer. This is a great buy for the money.
Contact Grill November 25, 2007 Susan (New York State) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking for a way to grill meat and make panini style sandwiches, so I researched contact grills. Consumer Reports gave this Hamilton Beach 25325 Mealmaker Express model a big thumbs-up, so I gave it a try. I've had it for about a month now, and I couldn't be happier with it. I've cooked boneless chicken breasts, pork loin chops, beef and turkey burgers, and chicken and turkey sausages. I've made grilled cheese sandwiches and other grilled panini style sandwiches, and it's done a great job cooking them all. I always pre-heat as recommended, and it gives me good grill marks, enhancing both flavor and the look of the food. I love that it has the timer... you turn the dial to desired cooking time and it turns on, counts down the time and then turns the grill off, so I never have to worry about leaving it on. The drip pan is on the side and is very easy to clean and replace. The grill surfaces remove easily for cleaning, and they're dishwasher safe... but I always just wipe them down at the sink because they're very easy to clean. I can cook 4 burgers at a time, or 3 large chicken breasts. Since it only takes about 5 minutes, it's very easy to do 2 or 3 batches if you need to. Something else nice is that once you shut the lid, you can forget about it till the timer goes off... no turning or checking for doneness, etc.. I got the black one, which matches my kitchen nicely so I don't mind leaving it out, next to the stove. The finish is shiny and it just takes a damp cloth to keep it looking nice. I love this grill!
