4 out of 5 stars works well; easy to clean; a little small   May 14, 2008

The only negative is that I need it to be a little larger. It is much easier to clean than the older ones!!! Overall good value.

3 out of 5 stars Removable Foreman Grill   May 9, 2008
Reviewer Mary (Little Falls, NJ United States)
It's great if you want your meat to come out steamed. The first unit I got had a problem with the heater. It was exchanged with another unit. The new unit worked better but was still not grilling the meat the way I wanted it to so I went and purchased another George Foreman grill that had non removable plates. This one grills the meat perfectly for me. Clean up is a problem but I guess I'll have to live with that.

1 out of 5 stars Does Not Get Hot Enough!   May 3, 2008
L. Sanchez (Albuquerque, NM United States)
The Problems With This Grill:

If you are looking for a product that grills food quickly and easily, DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL. This grill DOES NOT GET HOT ENOUGH to truly call it a "grill." It DOES NOT GET HOT ENOUGH to sear meats. It also DOES NOT GET HOT ENOUGH to grill quickly. What takes 5-10 minutes on my smaller George Foreman grill, takes 35-45 minutes on this grill, and even then, the meat never truly "grills." This product cooks more like a steamer than a grill.

Another problem I noticed is that after just one wash, the non stick coating began to come off the grill plates.

Lessons Learned And Some Information That Might Save You Some Time:

After doing a bit of research on other similar electric grills, I've noticed that removable grill plates have a positive and negative consequence. The positive is the easier clean up. The negative is lower cooking temperature. So the choice is whether you want easier clean up or quicker, better tasting food. Personally, I prefer the quicker, better tasting food so I am going to return this "grill" and try Breville 800GRXL Die-Cast Indoor Barbeque and Grill.

Edit since review: The Breville is an awesome grill that has removable grill plates. It gets very hot (hot enough to sear meats and "grill"), and the non-stick surface is very durable. It's a much better grill than the George Foreman.

1 out of 5 stars Geoge needs to go back to basics   April 8, 2008
Chatt (Santa Cruz, CA USA)
We've been using a small GF grill for several years and wanted a unit suitable for larger dinners. We were very disappointed with the GRP99. As other reviewers have pointed out:
* the grill takes much longer to heat up
* the grill takes much longer to cook food
* cooked meat does not have the grilled appearance - not seared, etc.
* the plates do not fasten securely to the shell
* the heated area is small compared to the grill size

After trying it once we returned it and bought a GR26SB.
The GR26SB was cheaper and cooks meat like our smaller grill.
No removable plates and no thermostat.
That wasn't a problem before, and we are much happier with the simpler configuration.

Before buying the GR26SB we reviewed the owner's manuals for as many grills as we could find. We also looked at the wattage ratings on the bottom of the grills. Sure enough, the cooking guide for the GRP99 lists longer times than the GR26SB and other grills with fixed plates. If time and appearance are important to you, then check out a range of GF grills before buying.

We do recommend using the GF cleaning pads. They work very well and reduce the cleanup time considerably.

3 out of 5 stars Beware   March 31, 2008
bugsbuni70 (Tonawanda, NY United States)
I got this grill as gift a long time ago and it worked fine. Except for the fact that it doesn't close well over thick meat therefore is has uneven cooking. My top grill plate fell off twice recently for no apparent reason. So be careful when buying this grill. the handles are not constructed well enough to handle alot use. Im searching for a new grill.
