5 out of 5 stars It really works!   September 26, 2005

I try to make my own ice cream as often as possible - generally it's softer and creamier. But with the effort it takes, it doesn't happen to often so Baskin Robbin's it is. And anyone who knows Baskin Robbin's knows that their ice cream can be so packed it's hard to scoop. I bought this scoop and kept my fingers crossed the whole time. I'm happy to say that it works! I've gotten rid of all the other ice cream scooping contraptions and am dedicated to the Zeroll. It's a definite recommendation for anyone who loves ice cream!

4 out of 5 stars Great scoop. Bad discoloration   September 15, 2005

I enjoy the scoop immensly. Solid feeling in your hand, and performs like a pro. Unfortunately, after washing it and placing it in my drying tray, the water on the bottom of my tray badly discolored the scoop, turning it a dark brown color. The discoloration doesn't go away either. Buy the scoop, love the scoop, but please keep it dry!

5 out of 5 stars Best ice cream scoop ever   September 3, 2005

Finally an icecream scoop that actually does what a scoop is supposed to do - give you easily-scooped nice round balls of ice cream. Easy to use and perfect in every way, down to it's classic good looks (except for the no-dishwasher factor). My husband laughed at me for paying so much for an ice cream scoop but now he wants to get it as stocking stuffers for everyone we know this Xmas. If you're reading this review, you're probably looking for a good scoop - you've found it!

5 out of 5 stars Just about perfect.   September 9, 2003

I've had one of these for almost a decade and love the way it handles ice cream. Unfortunately, I also own the "non-stick" version and as the finish ages, the dark color from the scoop is transferred to the ice cream: a most undesirable effect. Seriously, just buy the regular, not-nonstick version.

The real secret is the conductivity of the anti-freeze solution and the aluminum that encases it. The solution readily transfers heat from your hand to the handle, to the liquid, which warms the scoop ever so slightly after you scoop. By pre-warming the handle & liquid in lukewarm (NOT HOT) water for 90 seconds, you'll allow the scoop to release the scooped ice cream faster. Also, that 90 seconds actually lets the ice cream temper before you scoop. The end result: no-longer rock hard ice cream that you can readily scoop and virtually drop in a dish or on a cone. Note: if the surface of the scooped ice cream retains a liquid appearance for more than a few moments or (Eek!) if liquified cream runs off of the ice cream, you've over-heated the handle. Don't worry, just a bit of practice...
