Worst coffee maker ever November 15, 2008 S. Lentz (Jupiter, FL) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
DON'T BUY THIS. This thing is horrible. Goes thru beans at a rate of 3 1lb bags to every one of my prior machine and coffee is very weak. Then grounds become so impacted that it takes a massive cleaning effort to get them out. It becomes clogged in less than a week requiring you to turn the entire thing upside down and chisel out the grounds. A 10-15 minute process not good when you want to grab the cup of coffee and hit the road. I returned one and now can't take this back as store has gone out of business. Worst Cuisinart product ever.
DGB-900BC-much better than I expected November 2, 2008 booklaw (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After several years of use, we broke the carafe on our Melitta coffee grinder/brewer, and were unable to replace it. I had been quite happy with the Melitta, even though a cheap plastic part on the top broke repeatedly, and I had to use tape to hold it down in order to make coffee. I did extensive searching on-line to find a replacement, and, with great misgivings (due largely to a few reviews which said it would not make strong coffee, settled on the Cuisinart DGB-900BC. I am happy to say that using my usual mix of French Roast and hazelnut-flavored Columbian beans, together with a bit of chicory (for New Orleans-type coffee), and the "strong" setting on the coffeemaker, produces coffee that is quite strong enough for my taste... and in fact stronger than the Melitta made with the same mix. I am very happy with this new machine.
A Fantastic Coffee maker October 31, 2008 W. Hutchins (Louisville, KY USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Cuisinart DGB-900BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black This is the best coffee maker I have ever purchased. It's a few dollars more than I have ever spent before too, but the coffee it produces after the initial (new plastic) taste is gone is phenomenal. The manual recommends cleaning out the space between the burr grinder and the basket regularly and I found out why. It will jam up and you will have to work out all the grinds that pack up and stops it from working. The process is fairly straight forward though and only involves holding a metal door open while brushing out the grinds. I do that once a week now and haven't had an issue since. By the way, if you are considering purchasing the glass carafe instead of the thermal one, get the thermal. So long as you make at least 8 cups, the coffee stays hot for hours. I love this coffee maker. It's worth the money.
Loving It October 27, 2008 Kimberlee A. Salimeno (Westcliffe, CO) I am loving this coffee maker. I will tell you that it is my 3rd unit but I still love it. I would suggest to keep your grinder working to clean out the grinder area after every 2 grinds to keep it running smoothly. I love freshly ground and brewed coffee! Saves you money at the coffee shop and you treat yourself to a good cup of java!
Brewing Made Easy October 20, 2008 Dashir (Sacramento, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this coffeemaker about 7 months ago and thought I would write this review now that I have had some experience with it. Previously we owned a Melitta Grind and Brew with thermal carafe. Some points about the Cuisinart: **I have found that you do use more beans with this machine. Comes out to about an extra spoonful or so for every 6 cups. **With the Melitta we had to always temper the carafe with hot water otherwise the coffee wouldn't be hot enough. Not the case here. Piping hot coffee without tempering! And it will stay hot for a couple of hours! **Read complaints about how noisy the machine is. I'm not sure I noticed any difference. Grinding coffee is going to be noisy no matter how you do it. **Talking about grinding, I noticed that the burr grinder in this machine gives you coffee grounds that look like they've been mangled--the grounds are inconsistent in size and shape and some of what you get is powdery in consistency. We used the gold filter for a while, but switched to a paper filter. With the gold there is too much sediment in my cup. That also explains why you have to clean out the chute every week or so because the powdery coffee grounds cakes up and will eventually clog the chute. Cleaning the chute is fairly easy just use the brush that comes with the machine. **About the bean hopper. When you take it off, remember to push down on it and then turn the locking knob. Took me a bit to figure that out. **There were complaints about the carafe and how hard it is to pour. It's different for sure, but, again, it's something you get used to. **Overall, I found this to be a very good coffeemaker that makes a very good cup of coffee. It takes the hassle out of measuring beans and it offers many features that give you good flexibility and choice.
