Very easy to use December 25, 2007 Nan (New Jersey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had purchased this item after my first electric espresso maker died on me. It was very hard to find an electric one under $100 and was surprised to find this one. I have to admit, I was hesitant to order this one for I did not understand the whole see through thing, but after using it for some time now, I'm one happy espresso drinker. The only problem I have had is that I did lose (or more like my mother when she was helping cleaning it) the extra piece to make the half a pot. No biggie...I'm not a half a pot type of gal. I do enjoy the electric part since I can just hit the switch and walk off to do other things around the house. When I come back, my coffee is ready for me and I don't have to worry about buring it or the house. The only other electric maker I found was at Williams Sonoma for $99.
Makes great coffee December 15, 2007 J Kaucher (Little Rock, AR) I like this machine. It makes great coffee, is easy to use and clean. I wish the pot wasn't plastic. I would buy another one.
Delonghi Electric Moka Pot November 10, 2007 CM Taylor (Midwest USA) Best appliance I've ever purchased -- if it had a timer, it would be truly perfect. I set it up the night before, drag down when the alarm goes off, hit the button, and soon everything is okay. The coffee is good, and the parts all seem to do nicely (a month of heavy use and it's still in good shape). The filter insert for half a cup is useless -- why bother? -- and hard to get out; since I only tried it once, it isn't a real drawback. Clean up is very easy, and I'm buying a second one for my office.
Growing on me - works fine November 9, 2007 Nataraj (43.1N 89.35W Earth) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First: breaking the top. The only way I can envision breaking the top of this thing is if you grab the plastic handle and use it to torque the rest of the plastic top onto the metal base. (pause) Duh. Don't use it as a hammer either... I've used this maker for over a year now without a single problem. Gaskets and filters are readily available at my local coffee shop as they're the same as for the stovetop moka pots. I recently bought a $20 milk frother and have been enjoying delicious lattes. I like seeing through the plexi top to know for sure that it's done, but am definitely going to see if my $1 garage sale stove top moka pot top fits. It'll keep those extra shots warmer without having to leave the 'keep warm' power on. (I use the stove top moka pot with my backpacking stove when camping. Mmmm!) This device has some limits. If you want to make a bunch of espresso, say for a party, the base is HOT so handling it for a follow-up pot means using oven mitts. As is, it doesn't keep 2nd shots hot, and don't even think about a warm 3rd shot. I use hot tap water to pre-heat my cup. A final note is that my choice of coffee makes a huge difference. I've been experimenting and decided that LavAzzo Qualitato Oro (sp?) makes a reliable, tasty cup without having to fuss with my LOUD burr grinder while my wife is still asleep.
Pretty good - if you're careful October 4, 2007 lkm (Charlotte, NC USA) This is my second purchase of this coffee maker. I liked the first one just fine. But it wasn't long before the plastic top cracked. And Delonghi doesn't offer a replacement. So, several years later, I finally bought another one. I like the new one just fine, too. And I'm real careful with the top. The coffee made by the new machine isn't as potent as I recall from its predecessor - and nowhere near as strong as coffee made in the traditional stovetop machine. Still, this coffeemaker is very convenient and quick.
