2 out of 5 stars DeLonghi Coffee Mill Disappointing   June 15, 2008

We are sold on freshly ground coffee so we have a coffee grinder wherever we make coffee. We've had a Braun for years (it still works great after over 20 years but is in a different house) and recently broke a Proctor Silex mill (used for 5 years) and decided to try a new brand. I researched various brands on Amazon to try to find one with which people were pleased. The DeLonghi looked like a favorite but our experience has been disappointing. It has indicator lights which promise to alert you when the coffee has been ground to a specific consistency. However, it grinds inconsistently when ground "coarse" and becomes too fine (like powder for espresso) when the indicator designates "medium". The top is difficult to get in the right position (which is required before it will grind). Additionally, the top is difficult to pour grinds from without making a mess and losing some of the coffee. It's still working but we're looking for a replacement.

1 out of 5 stars Stopped working within a month   June 13, 2008

I read all the reviews (including the ones that said it stopped working), but it still decided to go for this. Was tempted given that I needed it to grind spices, and there were some good reviews.

Was a bad mistake - it stopped working within a month like the reviews mention. Called up customer support - can ship it back, and mail a return payment so that they can give us a new one. However, that would apparently cost about $18 for the shipping back and forth making it totally worthless.

I'm not going near this brand again across the board - there's plenty of other competitors to choose from.

4 out of 5 stars Grind Away - Nice Spice Grinder   February 18, 2008

I bought the unit to grind dried chili pods (chipotle, etc.)and I must say the unit works very well for this application. It would be nice if the unit deposited the final product into an enclosed container instead of having to empty the product from the top of the unit - but it cleans up easily and so far works great!

5 out of 5 stars WOW!! DONT OVER ANALYZE!!!!!!   February 13, 2008

It's amazing how reviews can affect people. I shopped forever! Read reviews, researched grinders, and contemplated over so many because of the reviews. All of these so called "COFFEE CONNISUERS" gave ratings that were sub-par and recommended grinders over $100!!!! Well, I LOVE MY COFFEE. But I had to draw the line on price. $50 max! I can say that all of the bad reviews for this product (UNLESS DEFECTIVE) are totally false. If the item has a bad review....that person has a bad neck! (because their nose is so far in the air!) All I'm trying to say is for all of you regular non-connisuers, IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY SPENT! Buy w/ out hesitation and enjoy.
THANK YOU!!!

3 out of 5 stars DeLongi DCG39 Electric Coffee Grinder   February 12, 2008
editor-in-chief (great neck, ny)
The DeLongi DCG39 Electric Coffee Grinder performs well enough, but I can't get a uniform grind every time. I was used to a burr grinder, which gives more control over the coarseness or fineness of the grind. My previous burr grinders also ground more coffee at one time. The capacity of the DeLongi DCG39 is quite small compared to other burr grinders I have had. However, the product itself is quite good, given its size and style. I'm satisfied with it.
