What a great little machine! March 2, 2006 Learnability (Houston, TX) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great product. It makes a great cup of espresso and doesn't break the bank with price. Highly recommended.
A great cup of coffee... with a caveat February 12, 2006 Lisa A. Thompson (Swarthmore, PA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This item is an affordable all in one cappucino maker. The water you put in makes your cup of coffee and also provides the steam for your milk. Read the directions carefully as you need to turn the dial at a specific time to correctly steam your milk and this keep your coffee hot. Once you get it down, you can make a very nice cup of coffee. Be aware, don't use this for groups or parties as it will only do one cup at a time. Another thing to be aware of is that you need to clean the steam wand after each cup so it doesn't clog. I felt I definitely got my money's worth, but you need to have an element of patience to use this item. Also, make sure you use skim milk; foams so much better!
Unbeatable machine if used right! Will make GREAT lattes/caps January 30, 2006 Third Shift (San Diego, CA United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Great little machine! I've used for a month and learned the trick to some great lattes. I have a cheapo burr grinder, cause I want a fresh grind right? But the fine grind is still chunky and with course grinds it's basically a tiny drip maker.so I ground some to flour-like powder at the store, like espresso should be. Problem is that it turns to concrete and this thing will over pressurize and blow steam everywhere! Kinda scarey actually. So I mixed a home 'fine' grind with the powder grind 50/50 and it brews with the perfect max pressure for this system. So use a grinds mix, heat up your milk (I use 1 to 1 w/espresso), add sugar and/or syrup to milk, heat in nuker until hot. Add just a little more water than the 4 cup line on the caraffe and brew with grinds basket filled just under the top and NOT packed down. When it's done brewing, it'll change sound and puff steam out of the pot, you then turn to steam w/tip just under milk and poof- will double in size. It's awesome. Trick is to not follow instructions, and slightly overfill water, preheat milk and steam at the end. Also if you pour in a large clear mug like me, it's like a parfait-desert: tan/black/foamy white. Stir it up and enjoy. Get some (good quality) syrup and it beats starbucks for .25! Buy this and try this. I also got a Melitta burr grinder, not so great, but a good grinder is $$, and the above method works great for me. BTW- keep gasket seal above grounds cup clean.
poor quality machine, waste of money January 23, 2006 M. Cooper (New York, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My machine worked for about seven days. Even when it did work it was ANNOYING. Takes too long to steam the milk, and then I still had to microwave the finished drink because it was luke warm. Also, too difficult to make more than one drink at a time, so by the time my drink is ready my hubby has long finished his. After seven days the steam wand gave out so now I'm stuck with a plastic, cheap espresso maker that cannot produce foam. Seriously, I've tried them all. If you want a good espresso drink and don't want to spend over $40, buy the stove top kind - they work great and last FOREVER. And the stove top milk frothers work excellent too.
loved it, but it clogged, here's a fix December 9, 2005 D. Jenkins (Minneapolis Mn) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Coffee started to only dribble out, not as usual, so I flipped it over and unscrewed the strainer in the top, took it out and cleaned out what appeared to be hard water deposits (we live in a very hard water area), (also ran vinegar through for good measure) then it worked again great! I have to say that I agree with the previous reviewer, this machine did pay for itself, even if I did have to fix it...
