Remarkable for the money June 15, 2008 Suetonius (CT USA) Picked this up after my Delonghi died. This one is superior in almost every way. The pump is stronger (much) and the steam works quicker. It makes a very smooth espresso. The Delonghi had a special system for getting a crema which worked very well - it's a bit trickier on this machine, you have to work out the correct tamping pressure (and the coffee has to be quite finely ground), but you can get a great crema once you figure it out.
Expected more June 1, 2008 D. vazquez (new york, ny) Annoying that regular mug cups do not fit. My husband uses 2 espresso cups to fill up 1 mug, and complains often how the coffee is warm, not hot. The "warmer" on top of the machine warms nothing. Noisy machine. Our last model was quiet, which is what you want early in the morning. At times the coffee comes out watery. We mourn the demise of our old espresso machine.
coffee is too cold, frother could work better May 7, 2008 Waldzik 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the money this machine performs very bad. It is better to save half of money and buy steam espresso maker.
Better off paying a little more money April 23, 2008 C. Plager (Villa Park, IL United States) A few months after I bought this machine, my wife bought me a high end espresso maker for Christmas. The difference in quality between the two is quite large. If you want an espresso maker, spend a little more money. If you want to go cheap, check out the Aeropress instead.
Great unit for the first time buyer... I am proof April 11, 2008 Kurt Wages (Springfield, Mo.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, let me say I am a 39 year old male, who in the past, would have rather had a cold diet coke in the morning, more than any cup of coffee of any sort. Well, after my co-workers finally got me hooked on the cappuccinos from the coffee shop next door, I decided to take the bull by the horns, and buy me my own machine. After feeling just alittle trepadacious while unpacking my new fancy coffee machine, and my wife thinking I had gone off my rocker, I got the unit cleaned up and ready to go. Cutting to the chase, after a week, I am darned proud of my abilities now. The machine works flawlessly for my uses, I cant wait for people to come over, so I can surprise them, by offering them a cappuciino? Expresso? My wife has even started drinking them, she loves a single espresso shot with steamed milk, and powdered chocolate on top. The secrets I have learned so far, is be sure to use skim milk if you like lots of froth. Also, be sure to steam the milk long enough, I finally used a cooking thermometer to show me where 160 degrees was ( I hadnt been steaming long enough, and the froth just wasnt happening). And after buying a couple of different bottles of flavoring (caramel and vanilla) from my local grocery haven, I am as happy as a pig in slop. Price for the machine couldnt have been better. The only thing so far I would have liked to have, is alittle longer steaming wand (since my cups seem to be HUGE and the nozzle doesnt reach down far enough sometimes), but I guess I could use smaller cups ! So, if you are like me, and this is your first time buying a machine, take the plunge with this one... I'm glad I did.
