Update - This is the one March 26, 2008 Red, White, and Blue (Inland Empire, Ca) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Update: 5 April 2008 - Dollar for dollar, best on the market. ***** 5 stars now. Originally I gave it three because it mysteriously shut itself off once when I first used it. I've used it a lot since, it hasn't happened again, and I highly recommend the thing now. Pros: - Temperature probe, program, manual modes - Nice crock - Does a great job "slow" cooking - Extremely easy to use Cons: - None for me I've used it five times since and it has performed flawlessly, better than any other crock I've owned. I use the program mode to cook roasts now, and the probe to re-heat leftovers. That's an incredible feature because you can re-heat food to a foodsafe temp and not overcook the item. Buy this thing at $39.99 from a retailer you can take it back to, just in case. I would give it 5 stars now, but apparently you can't change the original star rating when editing your review.
The lid doesn't fit the pot! February 12, 2008 M. Ramey (North Carolina, USA) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I never turned this product on to realize it wasn't right for me. The lid doesn't fit the pot! Most pots have a lid that will fit the pot snugly and not move around. This is needed to keep the heat and moisture in the pot and not let it escape. Not so with this pot! Once you have the lid in place, it can be rotated at least a 1/2 inch in each direction around the top of the pot. (This is an oval lid) Doing so you can easily create small holes for the heat/moisture to rapidly escape. There also isn't any indication by a snug fit that you even have the lid on the correct place to begin with. Do yourself a favor and do NOT buy this slow cooker!
Very Nice February 8, 2008 MJ (Leasburg, MO USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used this slow cook er several times since receiving it and am very pleased with it's performance. I recommend this cooker to everyone. I use it to cook stewing chicken to make chicken soup. This past weekend I cooked a turkey breast for dinner and will be slow cooking a "Bone-In" Pork roast for this Sunday's dinner. Hamilton Beach 6-qt. Programmable Slow Cooker- 33966. Try it you'll love how much time it saves you and how delicious the food is!
Great Slow Cooker February 6, 2008 Happily Retired (Pittsburgh, PA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Having been disappointed with several Rival slow cookers for boiling my food, and even having returned two to different stores, I read all the reviews I could find on the internet, including those at Amazon, and decided to try this Hamilton Beach 6-quart programmable model. I bought it at a local Target store, in case I had to return yet another slow cooker. What a pleasant surprise to use this one...it cooks as promised. The oval size is good for roasts, and the probe is wonderful. Because it does switch to Warm when the probe temperature is reached, I set my temperature 5 to 10 degrees lower and it finishes cooking during the warm cycle. I liked it so much that I returned to Target and bought the 3-in-1 model too.
6-Quart...don't believe it! December 28, 2007 C. Snover (South Carolina) 22 out of 28 found this review helpful
Although I did not purchase this item through Amazon.com, I did use the reviews to consider this purchase. I was sure that this was the one for me! I have an old Rival that has served me well for 15 years. As my family has grown, I am now in the market for a larger size slow cooker...preferable with newer convenience features. My old round slow cooker measures 4.5 quarts liquid, filled to the rim. Figured 6-quart would do the trick. Purchased my new "HB 33966 6-Quart Slow Cooker" with chrome exterior (it looked sharp!), got it home & out of the box, and realized its crock really didn't appear much bigger than my old crock. Thought surely I was deceived because of the oval shape...NOPE!! I got out my measuring glass and started filling with water to test...5-quarts, flush to the inside rim!!! I quickly boxed it up and called Hamilton Beach customer service. Say it ain't so! I got a really nice customer service rep...who, not wanting to call me a liar, went and found a quart jar as we were on the phone, and started the measuring test herself. Well, same thing! She didn't know what to say, so she went and got a supervisor, who said the measure is to the "outer rim". Give me a break!! I'm talking the outer rim that is around the lid. And, measuring from inside to outside rim, does not account for that 6th cup!! Try it and see! First of all, you can't fill it to the out rim because that's where the lid seats. Secondly, you wouldn't even fill it flush to the inside rim (the 5-quart mark) in cooking unless you wanted a real mess on your hand. I have nothing else to report, except for this deceptive advertising claim, as I quickly returned this product and ordered another highly rated 7-quart slow cooker. You can bet that I will have my measuring cup ready for this one, too! You decide!
