Rust Warning November 9, 2008 O. Weston After about 40 loafs, it started making noises and poorer bread. I couldn't turn the paddle by hand, so took off the clip, turning thing, and washer under the pan. It was rusted. Liquid wrench loosened it up to where it can now be turned by hand. The little retaining clip is junk not spring steel. For another 10 cents they could make all these parts stainless and avoid this problem; sloppy. Just be careful to minimize water contacting the pan when cleaning.
great breadmaker for the price November 8, 2008 D. Stahl (Santa Rosa, CA United States) I have loved and burnt up two Breadman breadmakers. Looking at the reviews, I decided to give this machine a chance. I am very impressed; my doughs and breads come out perfectly. The machine does not "walk" around the counter with difficult doughs. If you are considering a breadmaker purchase but put have been put off by the price, definitely consider this excellent little breadmaker. As far as recipes go, my best results have come from the Bread Machine cookbooks by Donna German. Inexpnsive little paperbacks with wonderful recipes.
Reliable machine with only one flaw November 4, 2008 Jonathan M. Lord (Charlottesville, VA USA) The Sunbeam 5891 is a very reliable machine with only one slight design flaw. Under certain lighting conditions (like my kitchen) the digital display is very hard to read. In order to read it in my kitchen, I have to use a flashlight shining directly on the display in order to see what it says. Other than than, the unit functions beautifully well from the first mixing to the final baking.
not happy! November 3, 2008 Tim Balfour 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read some of the more positive reviews and will try some of their suggestions, but after many tries my bread consistantly comes out very heavy ( rises barely to 2/3rds up the pan) and the crust is over-cooked on the light setting. I haven't even dared to try a darker setting. I've followed all the tips - new yeast, flour etc.and the consistency of the dough looks OK. I'm not new to bread making, having made it by hand for years and with other machines. I was so disheartened I sent it back to the manufacturers and was sent another - but still have the same poor results!
Actual Size November 1, 2008 21st Century Hermit (Colorado) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The actual size of this bread maker is 11W x 16L x 12.5H inches. I went to Wal-Mart and measured one. Needed to know in order to find a place to store the big fella. The Amazon description is over 1000 inches in all dimensions, say what? Is that the freight container? Even if those are millimeters, it's still way off.
