Makes morning coffee easy November 12, 2008 Ken in San Jose (San Jose, CA) I use it every morning to heat the water for my coffee. It is perfect for the job. In addition, it looks nice on the counter top so you don't need to put it away. I am very pleased and have recommended it to my friends. While it does get mineral deposits quickly (white on the element), it cleans even easier. I heat vinegar in it once a week or so. The rest of the pot hasn't even gotten dirty yet. You can turn it on without any water in it. I did that once and had to leave the thing to cool off before I could do anything with it. It has ALWAYS shut off when there is water boiling in the kettle. Mine did start with that nasty smell. But the smell went away with use. After a while, it is fine with no smell at all. Someone else recommended using it to pre-boil water for pasta etc. That works great as it is so very fast. I have been using it on a daily basis for +3 months. It continues to work well.
Very good and very bad November 11, 2008 L. Kapralick (Worcester, PA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a beautiful kettle and it boils water very, very quickly. But the reviews about the the foul chemical smell and taste are correct, at least with mine. I chose to ignore the bad reviews regarding the smell and I bought this two weeks ago. As soon as I unpacked it I could detect what the other reviewers were referring to. Every night since I got the kettle, a solution of either vinegar and water, baking soda and water, or lemon juice and water has sat in my kettle, all to no avail. I called Capresso after the first week and the customer service rep acknowledged the problem and suggested the lemon juice. She was very nice and told me to be sure to call back if that didn't work. After a week of trying the lemon juice, I still got the foul smell and taste in the water. I use filtered water that tastes fine before it goes into this kettle. When I called Capresso back, as directed by the first rep with whom I spoke, the rep who answered my call told me that I could send it back and they would replace it with one that "has been tested and doesn't have the smell," but that I would have to pay for the shipping. I didn't feel that I should have to pay for shipping so I asked to speak to his supervisor. The supervisor told me there are no problems with the kettles; he is unaware of any chemical odors and that I could pay for the shipping or return it to where I purchased it and have them replace it. When I explained that I wanted one of the ones his rep told me have been tested and have no odor, he denied all of that as being completely false. He got very nasty and said he could care less that I wasn't happy with my kettle. I am especially disappointed in Capresso and their customer service. We have been loyal Capresso customers with their coffee products and have never been disappointed. The kettle, however, has been a big let down. I am an avid tea drinker; the chemical taste is that is getting into the water when it is heated is beyond discernible, it is prominent even in cocoa and strong tea. If this is going to matter to you, don't buy it. It is really a shame because it is a beautiful kettle and does work well. But I am tired of dumping out undrinkable cups of tea due to a foul taste and am returning this.
Wonderful Water October 30, 2008 Island Cook (Puget Sound, WA USA) Our H2O Capresso Kettle is well into its 3rd year and we are as pleased as we are with several other Capresso products in our kitchen and office. I was concerned with 11 very negative reports and read them, then concluded that these people didn't bother reading the warranty or contacting the toll-free number for repair, replacement or satisfaction. This company has been in business over 16 years and has an outstanding quality control and consumer service record and their products are designed and distributed by the primary manufacturer of coffee and tea makers in Europe. Besides having a hot-looking design, it really works well and automatically shuts off when water reaches the boiling point. This is a great product and excellent value
Good product October 28, 2008 A. Fox 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have had this product for a few weeks. It works great, very happy with the purchase. There is a slight odor as some people complain about, but it has almost completely dissipated and does not affect the taste. Would recommend the product.
My experience with this product..and some rebuttals October 28, 2008 Mary L. Mcgough (San Jose, CA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's pricey, it boils water quickly, and it's lovely to look at. It boils water. * about the funny odor/taste - Mine doesn't have that problem so I'm guessing this product was redesigned OR a bunch of faulty ones were sold to consumers (which is too bad, but hopefully thanks to all the reviews those poorly mfrd ones were removed from the market) * about the heating element turning white if you have hard water - That's going to happen with any electric kettle. The difference here is that you can see the element without opening the lid. You can use either a vinegar or other acid solution like lemon juice to clean that off, or you can buy a commercially prepared product to clean it. No matter what kettle you buy you should be cleaning and descaling it regularly. * about water dribbling out of the bottom - That also has not happened with my kettle. It's been a few months now and this baby gets used daily. Often it is used multiple times per day. * about that star I deducted - This kettle doesn't have the same capacity as my old stainless steel one did. I miss that extra capacity from time to time. But I don't miss all the visible fingerprints on the stainless kettle so when the stainless one died after 4 years of loyal service I wasn't too sad. * the bottom line - I think this is a safe purchase. If you are concerned then you might want to buy it from a B&M store so that you are able to easily return it if necessary.
