2 out of 5 stars COOKS WELL, BUT IS POORLY MADE!   February 1, 2008

I bought my first one in 1985. It worked well for about 3 years and then the convection keypad stopped working. The repair man said it was not worth fixing. We used it as a microwave only for a few more years then purchased another one. The second one worked well for 3 years. The door stopped working and eventually a plastic part broke off. I wish I had kept the first one, because I could have replaced the newer broken door with the old door! It also began to loose its heating power. These ovens cook very well when new. The interior size is great and you can cook just about anything in them. They really bake well. The problem with this oven is that it is made with cheap plastic parts that wear out quickly. I just purchased a panasonic stanless steel microwave/convection oven with the same dimensions. It has excellent reviews. Hopefully it will be made better.

3 out of 5 stars wish I could have kept it   January 22, 2008

I ordered and received the Sharp R-930AK. It was bought to replace one I had for 18years and totally loved. This new one could not hold the temperature or get to 400/450. I only used it 4x's and had to return it. It looks great and has nice features and the price was just right, but if having it for 10 days and it spends most of it's time in the repair shop, well it's not worth it. I did bring it to a Sharp dealer, because I wanted to keep it but they never even looked at it. In getting in touch with Amazon. com they told me they would take it back and refund my money or replace it. They made the return easy and I am grateful, but wish I had a working convection/microwave. It took me raising the temperature to 400 or more to get something to bake that was suppose to bake at 350.
Here's hoping Sharp will get a clue and put out a better product.

5 out of 5 stars Convection MicroWave   January 22, 2008

had a similar microwave over ten years old and was really happy with it, until it died. This newer version is far better in all respects. Just regular microwave dishes are quicker and the convection works great on browning and re-heating.

I have used this Sharp Microwave/Convection for 10 carefree years... the only appliance I have ever had that is this good. Then I made an entry error and turned a loaf of bread into charcoal and my kitchen into a smoking zone. I could not get the oven repaired, so was thrilled when I found I could replace it. It is easy to use, works wonderfully as a microwave or convection, or both at the same time. I can roast a chicken to moist, golden perfection in 45 minutes...thaw bread to crusty perfection in 8 minutes...steam vegetables. Love it!

It seems to be all right functionally (cooking-wise). My only complaint so far is that the door doesn't spring open when the bar is pushed in. You have to grab the bottom of the door to finish disengaging the latching mechanism.
