This thing is wonderful! August 1, 2008 Jakester I love boiled eggs and I love egg salad but I've never been able to boil an egg consistently well. It seems like I always undercooked or overcooked. Even when I got it just right, peeling the shell ripped chunks out of the egg white. That problem is now solved. I have a 1300W Panasonic microwave and cooking 4 eggs on high for 9 minutes yielded PERFECT results. I could not be happier. However, there is one flaw in this device that prevents me from giving it 5 stars and that is opening it after it's done cooking. This baby is seriously hot coming out of the microwave so you MUST use oven mitts or something similar to handle it. Trying to open this smooth egg with oven mitts is like trying to trim your nose hair with a weedeater, it can be done but it's not easy and will likely be painful. I'll have to invest in some fairly thick rubber gloves to be able to grip this thing well enough to get it open while it's hot but other than that I really love this little bugger!
Perfect every time! Once I learned to use it, that is. July 23, 2008 M. E. Jones I hadn't had much success with the enclosed instructions that come with this egg boiler and was just about to give it away when I saw a consumer report on them. They said: For hard boiled eggs to microwave on high for 12 minutes, Let rest for 2 minutes and then Run cold water over the eggs to stop the cooking. It worked perfectly! Since then, I have taken the time to experiment a bit more and have found that 10 minutes on high (1300 Watt) and about five minutes to rest works too. I was so happy with it once I figured it out that I got one for my daughter, too. The best part is that not only are they cooked perfectly, they are also not cracked when they finish cooking. I love it!
the perfect appliance July 21, 2008 R. Morgan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Have had device for several years and cook one or two boiled eggs in it every morning. I set the microwave for 9 and a half minutes, put on the coffee pot and go take a shower. When i come back downstairs the eggs are usually perfectly cooked and the coffee is ready! On several occasions the eggs have cracked and some of the white has blossomed out into an interesting formation on the side of the egg, but this has happened only seldom and it seems to be random. I have never had an explosion. I am not sure what the user who has explosions is doing wrong, but with the thousands of eggs I have cooked in this appliance, I think I would have had an explosion if there was going to be one. It could be improved with a handle. It is very hot when done and one must be very careful not to spill the hot water.
It works! It's brilliant! June 27, 2008 E. Levin 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
8.5 minutes in a 1000 watt oven does the trick. No mess, no huge quantity of boiling water. Read the instructions-- it's easy!
yes, it works! June 25, 2008 wii girl My only complaint is that it only hold 4 eggs. I used to have the kind you plugged in and I thought that was great but this one is even better. It does take a little trial and error to find the best time for your microwave. But once you know exactly how long works best for you it is a snap to use. I still wouldn't recommend kids using it because it does get very hot and the boiling water inside could easily spill on them as well as they could be burned by the steam when opening it. It is so easy to use otherwise. you just fill the bottom with water, put the metal egg holder in, put upto 4 eggs in it and put the top on. I think I cook mine for about 8 mins. Then you open it up, put the eggs in cool water, and dump out the boiling water. They taste great. I have had some that seemed to get a little scorched and I'm not quite sure why. But normally they are great. Also makes a great gift. I gave one to a friend at work that does that diet with eggs and bacon every morning. She used to forget about the eggs on the stove every morning and I was scarred she would burn the building down. Now she uses this and loves it... and I feel safe :)!
