5 out of 5 stars Great multifunction oven   January 1, 2008

This thing toasts and microwaves...and is really small (not significantly larger than the toaster / oven it replaced). I've toasted and microwaved with it and it works. Toast came out perfect and the microwaved food was cooked / hot / etc... It is a bit underpowered as both a toaster and a microwave, but that just means cooking for slightly longer than in a standalone toaster / microwave. The trade off in space savings is worth it to me (by far). The design and colors are nicer than I thought they would be. While not quite a full on stainless steal aesthetic...it pretty much looks as such.

Unfortunately I can no longer change the ratings as I'm revising the comment after having used this item for half a year. There are two important issues with this product.

Plate has weldment defect which results in sparking during microwaving. While I didn't have an accident, I can see how a paper bag of popcorn can catch fire which can spread if the unit has grease deposits inside.

The other problem is that the ancient screen has poor contrast and only subtle indication whether it is in a toasting or microwaving mode. It's a little dash at the very top of the screen hidden by the edge. The only way to see it is to bend over. I was toasting a hot dog. When it was done instead of resetting is stay in toasting mode. My wife placed sterilizer with lactation pump plastic parts and turned the know to 7 minutes. As a result it toasted $100 worth of plastic parts.

1 out of 5 stars sharp microwave   November 13, 2007

My Sharp Microwave arrived on the date stated and was in excellent condition. I am very happy with the Microwave because it does so much more than microwave, it toasts, it bakes, and grills. I have only used my large oven one time since I received the Sharp Microwave. I am very happy with the price, the way I received my Microwave, and most of all is how much I enjoy using the Sharp Microwave.

thanks, Martha

1 out of 5 stars Avoid this one   November 10, 2007

When it comes to microwave ovens, it's more important to work good than to look good. I bought mine in December 2006. In June 2007 the heating element which is encased in a glass rod and mounted in the ceiling of the heating compartment cracked spontaneously. Even though it was still under warranty I had to drag it to the closest repair center and back home again and the repair took over 2 weeks. Today, November 2007, the glass rod cracked spontaneously again. It's not under warranty anymore so I'm seriously considering chucking the whole crappy machine and buying a different brand. Even when this thing was working, it didn't perform any of its functions well. In summary, this thing is WEAK WEAK WEAK! I quickly learned to routinely double any suggested cooking times. The toaster function barely heats the bread and never actually toasts it. The turntable is wobbly. It's very noisy when it's running. Random numbers appear at random times on the control plan display. I say avoid this thing at all costs.
