What's Not to Like? September 10, 2008 Kudzu Mom (Coldwater, Mississippi United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this little coffeemaker for several months now and I just love it. From the reviews I've read, people are either nit-picking (flip-up top, spillage when filling with water) or they happened to get a lemon, which can happen with anything. The pouring problem is easily remedied by using a little common sense and pouring from something with a spout: i.e. a 2-cup measuring cup. Voila! No mess. If the product just doesn't work, send it back and get a replacement. This is a great little coffeemaker at a great price.
Love it! September 10, 2008 A. B. (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This little pot is perfect for 2-4 cups. I tried two other brands of pots and was not happy with them, the Krups looked like a thermal carafe but was only stainless looking, and you can't see inside the pot as to when it is done or how much is left, tried Hamilton Beach, not hot enough. Love this little pot! Don't even bother with the other brands just get this one first.
Perfect for singles September 10, 2008 Hatem Sabry (Houston, Texas) The coffee maker is perfect for anyone who wants one or two cups. It says it makes 4 cups but i guess they are talking about 4oz cups or something, because it can only make 2 regular cups at a time. Other than that, it is great for such a low price.
Nice Unit - Great for Small Apartment or Desk September 7, 2008 Tetsu Uma (Illinois Native in Manassas Park, VA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've been using my Mr. Coffee DRX5 coffee maker for eight months now and I really like it. I wanted a small coffee maker for my desk at work and this one has really fit the bill. It has a very small footprint so it works great on my desk, it has not leaked a drop which is also good, and it makes pretty good coffee. (I use a heaping 2 tablespoon scoop for four cups.) I chose the black color so it doesn't show the stains. The unit has a removable filter basket so I don't spill grounds when emptying and the water level sight "glass" (which is plastic) is really handy since I fill it out of a water bottle rather than using the carafe. The clock is a great feature as I don't have one at my desk. (I notice that others have mentioned having problems with the clock but mine works just fine.) The output when I make a full pot fills my coffee cup about twice which I find is about the right amount of coffee for me. I only have minor complains. You have to pour slowly so the carafe doesn't spill and one hour shut off doesn't give me enough time. (Some mornings I make coffee at 6:30 and don't had a chance to touch it until after 8:00.) You can hit start again and it will warm up the carafe. Overall, this is a great little unit and it has inspired others in my office to purchase this model as well. Making my own coffee is much cheaper than paying a $1.00 for a 16 oz. cup in the cafeteria and I love the smell when the coffee is brewing. Having this unit allows me to drink the specialized coffee I prefer. The small size means making a second pot isn't so much of a chore on those days when one pot isn't going to cut it. I recommend the Mr. Coffee DRX5 to people who like fresh coffee with a minimum of fuss, either at home or at work.
Does the job August 30, 2008 California Dreamer (Edmonds, WA) We bought this coffee maker after our old electric one died and two other ones (Farberware and Melitta 4-cup coffee makers) didn't work out. We've only used it a few times, but so far it's doing a good job. Because of previous reviewers' comments about the timer, we decided not to even set/program the clock since turning on the coffee maker in the morning isn't a problem for us. The only complaint we have so far about this Mr. Coffee is that we haven't been able to find a permanent basket-style filter for it, so we're just using regular ones (the Melitta basket-style filters work perfectly, so don't feel like you have to buy Mr. Coffee brand filters). Other than that, though, we are satisfied with this coffee maker and will keep it unless something goes wrong.
