2 out of 5 stars Can't fit spatula   February 21, 2008

I've had a KitchenAid for about 4 years now. Everytime I use it, I curse it. The power of the mixer is fine, but with the beaters straight in the middle of the mixer, it's impossible for me to scrape down the sides while it's turned on. I've heard that the beaters should get all the way to the sides and not need scraping down, but this is not the case. The beaters don't get close enough to the side, so the ingredients end up on the side with nothing in the middle. So I need to shut it off and lift the head to scrape down the sides and then mix again. The mixer my mom had when I was learning to bake had the beaters off to the side. You could easily fit the spatula into the bowl and scrape it down while it was mixing. Maybe that's not the appropriate way to use a mixer, but it's what I've always done. I curse the mixer because I still try and use the spatula while it's mixing and usually end up hitting the beaters and ruining the spatula. Thus only 2 stars, because it never fails to frustrate me.

As others, I had a KitchenAid from the 1970s and it lasted until 2 years ago. I purchased an Artisan, but 3 different parts fell off, and the bowl always seemed to stick when removing. I was so disappointed. Now with this mixer, there is no worry, because the the bowl just lifts off. I also purchased the Condi Whip and mixer. That I love with it, because it's a smaller bowl and the beater that camae with it both mixes and whips. At first, I too thought the mixer was a little loud, but after the 3rd use, I don't even notice it. Hopefully, the mixer will continue to perform. I love the looks of it, also.

I ordered the KA 600 Professional model in licorice. It was a great deal, but I had to have a carpenter come out to raise a shelf so it would fit on my countertop, so be careful when you order. Otherwise, it has plenty of power. You won't be sorry.

This is a replacement for my Kitchen Aid Mixer that I purchased thirty some years ago! This new one has a larger bowl which is what I needed. I loved my old Kitchen Aid Mixer! I did notice that the knob to move the speed is not as good quality as that of my old one. The bowl itself is larger, but doesn't seem as good quality as the old bowl. I find that it's slow to start when I move the speed knob. It's also noiser which is understandable since it's a heavier model. I haven't used it much yet, but plan to soon!
