a real man's blender March 22, 2008 Johnny Dartmouth (Amherst, MA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Classic Beehive exudes nostalgia of a time when a kitchen was where ladies made dinner in high heels. Welcome to the 21st century. We survived feminism and metro-sexuality, and are now dawning an age of gender-neutrality in the kitchen. To help men transition to this new era, Oster has designed a blender with the power and noise of a 64.7cc leafblower. Yeah, maybe your makin' smoothies for the guys, but unless your wearing an embroidered apron, there won't be any questions.
Super Fast January 14, 2008 Jason Hebert (Houston, TX) My wife and I both love the beehive. It works super fast and is powerful. Yes, a tad loud....but seriously it gets the job done so fast that is why it is making that noise. :)
Why Put a Junk Lid on a Quality Blender? October 28, 2007 M. G. D'Aversa (Chicagoland, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a simple, two-speed blender that seems solid and does the job for most uses. The lid assembly, however, is a piece of cheap junk that absolutely does NOT live up to the Oster name. I can't tell you whether this is due to their using a cheaper plastic material or because the lid is so much thinner than those of previous Oster blenders I have owned, but please believe me when I say the lid is flimsy. You have to keep your hand on the lid, especially when starting the blender, to prevent it from blowing right off and creating a mess. Furthermore, the flimsy plastic softens a LOT when you are working with hot foods. I was pureeing warm tomatoes and soon discovered that the little clear plastic cap in the lid's center would no longer lock into place. Wanting to finish the job, I continued. Moments later, the clear plastic cap slipped through the softened lid and dropped into the blender, where it was quite efficiently chopped and blended into my tomatoes. Why did Oster have to cut corners like this on what is otherwise a nice product? For shame! Incidentally, a replacement center cap cost me $2.50 at an authorized repair center. Grrr!
effective but LOUD August 2, 2007 goodgothgirl (Memphis, TN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great-looking, great-operating, sturdy, no-fuss blender. I'm satisfied with its performance and durability, and I love its great looks. The only drawback, as others have mentioned, is it is LOUD. I definitely think it could cause permanent hearing loss. It is no exaggeration that I wear hearing protection when I use it, so keep that in mind if you're considering it. (You can get cheap, effective earplugs at a drug store.)
Loud Enough To Cause Permanent Hearing Loss July 2, 2007 John Foster (Outer Space) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
- yes this blender is effective - yes it is sturdy - but it is loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss - do you keep earmuffs or earplugs in your kitchen? - the cause of the noise IS the metal drive mechanism and the electric motor - it would be easy to add some sound insulation to the housing, and in my opinion as an M.D. this shouldn't be sold without it
