Blender for a month. September 20, 2006 Deborah L. Scarborough (Beverly Hills, CA USA) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I absolutely loved this blender, but it abruptly stopped working one day after I'd only had it for 6 weeks! No sign of life in it whatsoeveer. But when it worked, it was the best. I'm trying to return it as we speak. We'll see what happens.
Nice Blender. August 14, 2006 Yogi Bear (Mineral, VA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Our old blender had recently burned out, and we were planning frozen margaritas on the dock, for a family reunion vacation at the lake. I needed a blender, and my wife thought I was out of my mind when I suggested we purchase the Waring HPB300 MegaMix. After all, for what this thing cost, I could have purchased all 5 of those other blenders offered by KMart. When my new blender arrived, I was surprised by the weight. This is a solid piece of machinery. I loaded it up, let it rip, and within seconds my frozen drink was done to perfection. No lumps, no crystals, just smooth slushy perfection. This thing blows away any blender I've ever used. Not once did I have to stick a spoon down into the mix to start things spinning. After vacation, my wife admitted that purchasing the MegaMix had been an excellent choice. What else can I say, I love it when I'm right!
excellent blender August 12, 2006 E. Girten 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This blender is worth the money. I make lots of smoothies for breakfast or lunch and it does the job in 30 seconds flat. I've gone through 2 regular blenders in too short a time, but this can handle making protein shakes without incident. The only minor drawback is how noisy the blender is. However, you only need it on for a short time.
PLASTIC JAR LASTED TWO (2) SMOOTHIES! June 24, 2006 H. Gaskin (na) 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was excited about this blender. Boy was I disappointed. A tiny flimsy plastic jar. The motor was fine but the jar lasted two uses and it cost $50.00 for a replacement. When I tried to buy a new jar there were non available. So I bought a complete new smoothie maker by back to basics with a large GLASS jar for just $70.00. I love my back to basis. I can't believe I paid over $300.00 for a piece of junk.
Waring blendors are the best. February 2, 2006 Mr. Picky (NYC) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
My Grandmother had a Waring Blendor. My Mother had a Waring Blendor. Why did I have to BUY one instead of "borrowing" one of theirs? Because they gave them away to get "lighter", i.e., cheap, plastic blenders, back in the early eighties. Big mistake. My grandmother died before she had to replace hers, but my mother is on her third cheap blender now. I expect my Waring Blendor to last the rest of my life. Fortunately, I was able to get my grandmother's Waring Blendor Cookbook from the forties. The current model still has the powerful motor, heavy glass container, super-duper cord and top-quality switch that my grandmother's had, sixty-odd years ago. I also picked up one at Goodwill to have an extra pitcher to make two kinds of frozen drinks when I have a party. It is about forty years old but still works great, and it was obviously used quite a bit. (I only wish I had found it before I bought a new one!) The container still fits the base on the current model. Makes fruit juice like a juicer, makes the best milk shakes, daquiries, gazpacho; it can even whip cream for dessert or froth milk for fancy coffee drinks! You can make a thick, creamy milkshake with milk, a frozen banana, a couple of ice cubes, and a little chocolate powder. You can even pre-chill the container in the freezer to make sorbet. The secret difference: this Blendor creates a tornado in the center of the container, ensuring that everything gets evenly mixed. According to my Waring Blendor Cookbook, this is because of the unique four-leaf clover shape of the container, the shape of the no-rust stainless blades, and the high-powered motor. You can use a wooden spoon through the hole in the top to make sure ice cubes get properly mixed if you find that to be a problem. (If you add ice cubes one or two at a time to the container with liquid already in blending on high, you will have the smoothest frozen beverage you have ever had with NO leftover ice chunks.) The easiest way to clean it is to fill it 1/4 to 1/3 full of water, add ONE drop of dishwashing detergent, PUT THE LID ON, blend, shake and rinse. Sure, it is a little loud (brings back memories of my childhood!) and if you drop the glass container on your foot, you'll be sorry, for your foot, because the container probably will never break. Notice that none of the Waring Blendor's detractors suggest an alternative. If it isn't in the MOMA collection of Twentieth Century Industrial Design, it should be. Buy a Waring Blendor and you'll never have to buy another blender. And neither will your children.
