I'm delighted with this machine.
I did find the factory setting to be too coarse at the fine end, but a few minutes following the instructions corrected that, and now it's excellent. The factory setting at the coarse end is very very coarse, and even with it reset for the finest possible grind at the fine end I wouldn't use the coarsest setting even for my press-pot.
The uniformity of the grind is outstanding.
The feed problems people mention are true - I do have to poke a few of the beans to get them over the lip at the bottom of the input jar, but I don't find that much trouble. Using a glass output container really seems to reduce the static problems (that and the fact that even at a fine setting there is little 'dust' generated).
This machine is _very_ sturdy. I don't think it will need replacing for a _long_ time.

Superb grinder. I've had it for about 3 years now. I purchased and returned a Capresso grinder and received a Miele grinder as a gift; neither come close to this Kitchen-Aid product. (Nor do the cheapo Braun, etc. grinders you find for around $20, which can't produce the same quality of grind as burr grinders.) The solid construction and all-glass containers ultimately justify the expensive price.

I have had this grinder for a year now and see the following as the pros and cons for it:
Pros:
1. Made extremely well, should last many many years.
2. Grinds very fine or coarse. I make french press coffee and with a little adjustment(just follow the manual) this grinder will perfectly grind for french press.
3. Very attractive design, looks great up on the countertop.
4. Top glass bowl for holding beans is thick glass.
5. Simply does a great job grinding coffee beans, doing what it's supposed to do very well.
6. Commercial quality heavy steel conical burrs. Plenty sharp enough (although they dont look it) to grind beans perfectly.
Cons:
1. While the top bowl is heavy glass, it does not "seal" well to where it screws into the metal grinder. pieces of coffee bean will accumulate in this gap and is a bit of a mess to each time you take the top bowl off. not a big deal though. also, each time you grind coffee beans, some beans will cling onto the lip created by this gap and need some assistance in going down into the burr grinders.
2. The lower bowl is just the opposite of the top bowl, it's very thin glass and it will break on you. I'm careful with mine. I broke my first one when hand washing it. I didn't drop it, i was carefully holding it and broke while i mildly scrubbed/washed it with a dishwashing pad. it broke in my hands. really thin. if kitchenaid made this lower bowl as thick as the top bowl, that would be great. they'll charge you 10-15 dollars to replace the bowl.
3. not only do beans cling to the lip created by the gap between the upper bowl and the top of the grinder body but they also cling on the small shelf just inside the top of the grinder. there is literally a small metal shelf about an inch down inside the grinder and EVERYTIME you grind you will need to stick something down there (i use a small paint brush) to get all the beans down the grinder.
Overall:
This is as good as a grinder as you will find for the price. it's not cheap but it's worth it and you will be happy. apart from the 3 design errors (everyone complains about the same 3 things - no idea why kitchenaid has refused to address these concerns for years) this is a great grinder. with a little patience and encouragement getting the beans down into the burrs and with being very careful handling the thin lower glass bowl, you will be happy with this grinder.

I picked up the red version of this grinder from Amazon a few months back and have used it hundreds of times for everything from espresso to French press coffee. It is an excellent machine with just a few little quirks. I highly recommend it to any coffee lover with a budget.
Pros:
+) Very solid construction
+) Wide range of grind settings
+) Grind settings adjustable by the user (they even tell you how to do it in the manual!)
+) Consistent grind size
+) KitchenAid warranty and service
+) Grinds ejected from the machine are less compacted than with other machines due its unique design
+) Looks great on the counter
+) Affordable price in comparison to other machines of this quality
Cons:
-) Some beans tend to get stuck in the machine between the hopper and the burrs (I use a small pipe cleaner to knock them loose so none stay stuck between grinds)
-) A small amount of grinds fall from the burrs onto the machine base when I remove the glass container, even if I shake the machine slightly first
-) The hopper lid does not fit tightly but this doesn't bother me much as I never store beans in the hopper anyway. I've read that KitchenAid will send a new lid upon request
