Great for reptile enclosures (no, really...) June 1, 2008 H. Peter Anvin (San Jose, CA United States) We bought one of these to use with our snake. We had used products designed for pets before and they all worked poorly and were horribly noisy. This particular model was easy to modify to connect to a terrarium, by simply popping off the spout and epoxying a 1" standard PVC fitting in its place. The external hygrostat is what makes it superb for this use, as the corded hygrostat (use a standard telephone headset cord to extend the wire, if needed) goes inside the terrarium, and readily keeps the humidity at an appropriate level. The device is very quiet, especially when run at a low level (for terrarium use, the lowest setting is typically sufficient.) All the wet parts are accessible, which makes the unit easy to sterilize periodically (important for reptiles.) We have a reverse osmosis system for drinking water, and that water supply seems to work just fine.
worked ok, for 2 months April 30, 2008 animal fanatic (Idaho) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This humidifierSPT SU-2081B Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier with Hygrostat Sensor, Blue is much smaller than I expected, but it worked OK, after I figured out how to program it since the directions don't match at all. The hygrostat was a waste because it ran the same regardless of the humidity level. However, two months after purchase it just stopped working completely, both the light and the fan stopped, despite the fact that I only used distilled water in it and followed all directions for care. Since it's more than 30 days old, I can't get a refund so I'm not at all impressed. I'll send it back to see if I can get at least a partial refund, but I don't think this was worth the expense. The last $25.00 one I bought at Walmart lasted 2 years and worked just as well.
A step backward April 12, 2008 Richard L. James 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd had a durable Toshiba ultrasonic dehumidifier for maybe 20 years, but it finally stopped, and it appears they're out of that business now. This unit has some more bells and whistles, but I'd still rather have the old Toshiba because this unit: has smaller tank capacity; instructions say I must disconnect the unit and move unit to a sink to pour out standing water in the base; and after every disconnect and refill, I must very slowly reset the humidity setting digit by digit back to my desired setting. On the other hand and relative to what's available now, it seems like a comparitively good deal so far after 2 months of use.
An ok humidifier March 26, 2008 Jester FPS (Cali) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used this humidifier for about two months then it broke from me moving it while it was misting. It doesn't have a filter so algae and white stuff builds up inside the reservoir. I would consider another humidifier, preferably one with a filter. The night light on this model is a nice addition though and the humidity control + sensor seem to work ok with this model.
SPT SU-2081B Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier with Hygrostat Sensor, Blue March 24, 2008 Robyuken (San Diego) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great product and price. Even though I have case humidifiers. I use it to humidify a room for my stringed instruments when out of the case. Since I do not use it all the time I only have to fill it once per week. The digital display is easy to read and the controls are easy to adjust.
