This is definitely the perfect crock pot. I've had several and this is the only one I've found that you can brown in. I love this feature because most of the time I'm using the crock pot due to lack of time during the day. Also, if you need to get the meal to a boil before simmering, it is much faster to put it on the stove than to wait for the crock to heat. I haven't used it in the oven yet, but I'm sure it would work fine. Great time saver!!!
Very Convenient Slow Cooker. December 2, 2007

As everyone mentions the real advantage of this slow cooker is that you can brown things on the stove without using an extra pan. But you can also make your gravy in it without using an extra pan (just take your roast & veggies out first!) and you can use the stove to quickly heat your slow cooker to boiling when done with browning. This reduces the chance of bacteria growing while your slow cooker is warming up. I have no complaints. Just remember that this thing is never really "off" unless it is unplugged.
