5 out of 5 stars Perfect. Absolutely perfect   April 26, 2008

No downside to this appliance at all. Unlike the pottery crocks, I can actually lift this easily, and it heats up faster as well. This is the only manufacturer I could find with this type of crock, so we can only pray they don't discontinue it.

5 out of 5 stars Glad I bought this one   April 6, 2008

Very pleased with the looks and performance and would order again. You can't go wrong unless you are going to be away for 8 or more hours. Then you should get a programmable one.

4 out of 5 stars Good cooker. Best feature: it can go on stovetop or oven.   March 28, 2008

This is a nice, but simple, slow cooker. Its advantage, and the reason I got this one, is that it can be put on the stovetop or in the oven, since it is made of metal and is nonstick. This also makes it lighter than most.

However, it is not programable, and does not have a remote temperature probe/sensor, as do some models

5 out of 5 stars So Far, So Very Good!   February 25, 2008

I wanted to wait until I'd tried a variety of dishes prior to formulating a review. So far, I am very pleased with this cooker, and for a variety of reasons.

I always brown meat prior to potting, stewing or roasting, so the fact that this can be used on the range-top is perfect. A previous reviewer who also uses a ceramic range top had difficulty; I did not. When browning meat on the ceramic range top, I did not exceed the medium heat setting of the range. The pot bottom does tend to curve briefly from the heat, then it just pops right back to its original shape. I did the browning the night before, covered the pot and refrigerated it. Next morning before work, I put any other ingredients in, and set the cooker on low.

The cooker heats quickly, even at the Low setting, and keeps a pretty even heat throughout the cooking time. There are a number of notches from the Low to the Warm settings, so you can make adjustments. I used the rack for roasting a whole chicken, which was pretty good, and you can lift the roast out by the handles in the rack.

So far I've made spareribs, pork chops, roast chicken, chicken cacciatore, and short ribs of beef, and the only meal that was so-so was the pork chops, and I think it's because I didn't use a thicker cut of chops. I've also used the griddle base to heat tortillas, and that worked well.

The whole thing cleans up beautifully, and I like that it's lightweight. I hope that this cooker lasts, because it's been great so far!
