I bought the KitchenAid KSC700OB 7-Quart Slow Cooker, Onyx Black crockpot amid mostly great reviews and a few negatives about cracking. Good reviews were great so I went ahead, but before first cooking I just boiled water to check for problems. None found. Have cooked 5 separate meals so far and I love the setting flexibility and ease. The 7 quart pot is big, but if you're gonna cook you might as well cook for 2 days (or family and friends if they are coming.) It is everything I hoped for and expected. An ease to cook with and it doesn't get much easier that "CROCKIN'."

We've used this slow cooker three or four times now and it has done well for us. Our one concern was that the lid did not seem tight fitting to me - there's about an 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap on the long edge, but this doesn't seem to have adversely affected the cooking so I don't see it as a problem. The pot itself seems to be holding up just fine.

Just providing another data point--I bought this slow cooker despite some of the negative reviews, assuming that actual problems were rare. 40 minutes into my first recipe, I heard a snapping noise from the kitchen; the pot had cracked, and was leaking. KitchenAid told me that this was not a known issue, and offered to replace it, but I opted to send it back to Amazon.com instead, and to look for a more reputable model of slow cooker. I've given this two stars instead of one because it looks like it would be a good slow cooker if it did not crack.

I waited 18 months to place this review, and I can finally say that my slow cooker gets no more chances. Three fatal design flaws finally did me in:
1) three cracked ceramic inserts, the last one cracking while cooking and making an ungodly mess,
2) a warped lid and a gasket on that lid that never sealed, so there was always steam escaping, and
3) don't let the multiple settings fool you. I frequently would cook on the BUFFET setting, since every other setting produced a vigorous, rolling boil. Fool me thrice...

Delighted to get this beautiful product...until I used it. Craaack! What was that noise? The ceramic crock cracking during the first use. Oh, well. Just an exception to the rule. This is KitchenAid, right? The best, right? So, I wrote to the company and they sent me another ceramic crock. That cracked on the first use also. I wrote again, and they sent me a replacement appliance and a return shipping form. I sent the first slow cooker back and was delighted to have a new cooker, whose crock cracked during the first use. So, I notified the company. This time I was very upset. They replaced the ceramic crock, which dutifully cracked this time during the second use. I'm done! I have NEVER had a slow cooker that behaved this way, and I can't believe a fine company like KitchenAid is allowing these cookers to be sold. Let the buyer beware!
