5 out of 5 stars A very happy purchaser...   October 21, 2007
Robert W. Orlopp (Largo, FL USA)
This 6 quart NESCO roaster is the finest piece of cookware I own. Unlike many other brands, this one gets hot enough to brown and roast food giving it incredible aroma and flavor. Chicken, pork, beef, meatloaf, stews, soups, chili, spaghetti sauce...you can't make them easier or better any other way! The heating element in this roaster surrounds the outside of the removable, oval, stick-resistant cooking pan, so food tends not to stick or burn on the bottom. My original NESCO roaster is about 20 years old and still works fine. My sister owns and uses one of similar vintage. I purchased this new roaster for a second home...because I just missed having a cooker that was as flexible, versatile, and reliable. I am a VERY happy (portly) bachelor who actually enjoys cooking in such a foolproof roaster. In my opinion, every home should have one...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   June 1, 2007

This was by far the best cooking appliance I have ever owned. I could fry in it, drain meat, and then throw all my other ingredients in after. I used to even make omelettes in this thing, which is something I'd never even consider in a conventional cooker. I loved that the inside was lightweight and removable. So easy to clean, and an excellent value!

Well, after having this for almost a year, I honestly am sorry I bought it because I am finding it just isn't a necessary appliance for my kitchen. My mom has one and just loves it. She cooks all her chickens in it, small turkey breasts and larger sized roasts. I have cooked my chicken in it and it did turn out well. However, I continually needed to check it to make sure it wasn't burning on the bottom. It is much easier for me to put the whole chicken in a cooking bag in the oven. In terms of the slow cooker portion of the roaster, the things that I have tried to slow cook I haven't used enough of (we're a small family) and the food hasn't cooked all day like I would want it to without being burned and dried out. As a result, I ended up purchasing a 4 quart slow cooker which I just love and the portions I use in it are the right size for our family.

This appliance is big and you need to have enough room to store it. I think if you have a large family and are cooking large portions, this should work well for you.
