Racoon Toast March 28, 2008 M. Flasco (Akron, OH USA) Long slice burns black on the ends and golden in the center. Doesn't Cuisinart check these products before they go out for sale? Nice features that don't matter if it can't do the one thing I ask...make decent toast! Should have gone with the more expensive (and massive) Kitchen Aid even though I would need to add counter space.
It DOES make toast March 8, 2008 Vic (Colorado) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I needed a toaster for a smaller space, and this is one of the few available. The drawback is that the description didn't mention that it is not to be used under a cabinet (how many kitchens don't have upper cabinets?). On the positive side, it DOES fit in my small space. There are four edges inside that are a challenge to clean out, but the pull-out crumb tray is great. The bread is not toasted evenly, but I have figured out using level 2 about 1 1/2 times gives the best results. Maybe at that level, I'm saving energy. The toaster I replaced was twenty years old, so I'm used to some problems; and, hey, with a little work, it DOES make toast!
great toaster February 25, 2008 Sandra J. Larsen this toaster works great, i don't know what the others are talking about when they say it toast uneven. best toaster i've ever had.
Definitely NOT like the former Cuisinart toaster! February 19, 2008 MB (Camarillo, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We had worn out our old Cuisinart 4-slice toaster and replaced it with this toaster because it is the same style, same type. What a HUGE disappointment. There are 6 settings (#1 & 2 Light, #3 & 4 Medium, #5 & 6 Dark). The toaster just warms the toast on setting #1. On the next setting #2, it toasted unevenly, burning the toast because the toaster heats much hotter in the center. Our old Cuisinart toaster was extremely reliable and toasted evenly, plus the slots are large enough to toast bagels. I wish I had listened to the other reviews and bought another toaster. Save yourself some grief and hassle and buy another brand.
If Only I could give it ZERO stars February 9, 2008 J. Yeagley 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This toaster is junk. You have to just set it very low and keep checking. Settings are 6-1, but 3 comes out like charcoal. It always burns the edges of wide bread if the center is anywhere near toasted. Although it is supposed to hold 4 slices of average sized bread, the slots are actually a bit too short to toast 4 slices of anything but the narrowest bread so if you want any more than one slice you have to use it on the 4 slice setting. On the 2 slice setting one of the heaters that should be off comes on anyway. The side of the bread facing the inside is never as well done as on the outside even when it is not on the bagel setting. The bagel setting seems like the heat is reversed from what you would expect: that the split side of the bagel would face the inside of the toaster so the inside should be hotter, but it's the outside that toasts hotter, not the inside, which means anyone not familiar with this toaster messes up their bagel. I expected more from such an expensive toaster.
