Worst Toaster I have Ever Owned January 21, 2008 Vickiviolet (Arizona) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the worst toaster I have ever owned in 69 yrs. and I have had quite a few. It does not toast both sides of the bread evenly no matter what setting. You have to turn the slice while you stand there and watch it! The size of the slots are too short for many of today's breads. Often times the bread needs to be pushed down after starting the toaster. The crumb tray is a joke. The stainless steel is hard to keep clean. It is so poorly constructed you can see the heating elements through cracks that also allow a lot of the heat to escape. However, it does defrost on the defrost setting & the heating element is very hot and red unlike other toasters. It does ok on bagels. Odd shape makes finding a cover impossible & takes up a lot of counter space. Same design shape available at Target in a different brand at 1/2 the price.
Mixed Blessing January 17, 2008 stem_cell (San Francisco, CA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Bought this toaster after reading the favorable reviews. My thoughts after one week of family use are mixed. The good points: toasts evenly, like the lift handle concept and the slanted front face for easier access, the inside basket is beefy, secure and won't fail like my Cuisinart from repeated-use metal fatigue. Also bagel and re-heat options (via button use) are nice features. My only detrimental comment relates to the heat settings. Unlike my previous toasters where one setting more or less worked for all bread types, this one needs separate settings for different bread types. For example, an effective setting for sliced sourdough bread on my toaster is 4 but a split sourdough dinner roll (2x thickness) needs to be at 2.5 setting or it will be badly burnt; why???? Do I need to mark various settings on the toaster so all family members are aware? Well, I did just that. On a side note, stick to what fits in the basket because if the bread itself is a little long then the forward-slanting toaster face tends to eject toasted bread out of the toaster onto the counter/floor. Other: Good price, paid $29.99 (after-Christmas sale) at a major B&M retailer.
Not for one slice August 22, 2007 Robert G. Sanderhoff (Omaha, NE United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This toaster has some good qualities and features. The one I was looking for is not on this model. I wanted a toaster that can toast evenly on both sides with one slice of bread. The Avante does no better than cheaper toasters.
Great Toaster July 26, 2007 maggie (Lapeer, Michigan United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Looks sharp, works great Best bagel toaster I ever owned. DOes not heat the outside of toaster or counter which our last Hamilton Beech one always did. I love it
Just the toast, m'am. July 15, 2007 L. Dethman (Northwest) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the best toaster we've ever had. A little bit large on the counter, and not reto-cute, but it toasts perfectly and does limited but useful toast-related tricks. If you want a toaster that gives you perfectly toasted bread each time, buy this one.
