3 out of 5 stars Typical flimsy China made product   November 30, 2007

Typical flimsy China made product
I originally bought my old DeLonghi Toaster oven because it was a high quality sturdy Italian made product, it actually lasted 20 years!
I can't imagine this cheesy built unit will last half that long. I put it in the same category as a $50.00 Black and Decker. It works fine, as it is new.
The oven lacks an "on" switch. You have to use the timer which cumbersome to someone that knows how to look at something and know it is done.
It doesn't have a "toast" function and the picture of the Pizza on the box is downright fraudulent... unless you know of a place that sells 10"X11" oval Pizzas.
I am not giving this product the lowest rating because it does work at this time, but it is far from the DeLonghi products I grew to trust. I feel betrayed. I believe my next will be a different brand.

Had a smaller DeLonghi toaster oven for fifteen years and was very impressed with the quality (made in Italy). Purchased the AS1870 (made in China) for its capacity and convection capabilities and have not been disappointed. The rotisserie has proven to be a real bonus, though I am not convinced that a 10 pound chicken is a possibility. The five pounders seem close to the upper limit and are beautifully caramelized, juicy and very flavorful. The convection function is brilliant as well. Also have enjoyed a DeLonghi espresso machine for nearly twelve years.

My regular oven is broken and I'm not able to replace it right now, so I needed a good quality toaster oven in the interim. This oven is great! I bake cakes and casseroles and cookies and they all turn out perfect!

2 out of 5 stars Not As Expected   August 19, 2007

I chose this oven over others because it said you could do 6 pieces of toast and had a toast darkness adjustment-NOT. I like to toast bread, roll, muffins, etc. Along with a long warmup time, if I didn't want dehydrated bread products I had to do them on Broil and for toast, turn it over. When using the BROIL Function you have to leave the DOOR partially open (and heat your kitchen). I used the rotisserie and bake function once and they worked OK. Quality of unit was pretty good for the price.

5 out of 5 stars Saves time, energy and doesn't heat up the kitchen   August 12, 2007

I did a lot of research before deciding on this unit. After quality and price, some of the most important concerns I had were the height (I have limited vertical distance between my countertop and the cupboard), the rotisserie function, and the appearance of the oven. I decided against the 'Showtime' rotisserie oven because it was too tall, and because it had a boxy unattractive look (I thought). I was looking for something a little more retro and streamlined. I've owned my DeLonghi unit for three months now, and I am extremely pleased with it. It has a sleek retro look with black and chrome accents, and it fits with room to spare between my counter space and the cupboard above. I use it primarily to cook rotisserie chicken, and it does a superb job! My entire family loves the way the inside of the bird stays juicy and moist while the outside gets evenly browned. I can always throw some vegetables into aluminum foil and cook them with the chicken, so my total time spent preparing the meal is usually less than ten minutes....that means a lot to me! I just tie the bird up and put it on the spit, set the timer and come back when it is done. Clean up is pretty easy too since I just line the crumb tray with aluminum foil and toss it when the cooking is done! One of my lesser concerns was how hot the outside of the oven gets during cooking. All of the reviews I read for the different countertop ovens said that heat was a big issue. Since I don't keep it near anything that would get damaged by the heat, that has not been a big issue for me. But even though the unit does get hot to the touch, it definitely doesn't heat up the kitchen when I use it. That makes it much nicer to use than my large oven which makes the kitchen pretty uncomfortable--especially during the summer. I've also used it to bake mini loaves of bread, steam veggies, cook personal size pizzas, and have even made home-made jalapeno poppers in it! I especially like the way I can use the bake/convection feature, then instantly switch to broil to brown things--it works so much better than my larger oven for making snacks and small meals. The only negative point I can find with this oven is that the specs say it will cook up to a 12 pound bird--the largest one I've been able to fit that will spin correctly on the spit was 8 pounds. Any bigger could still be done, but it would have to be roasted not rotisseried. I am very satisfied with this oven and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great looking unit that has rotisserie, convection, and fairly small footprint on the countertop.
