These bad reviews are accurate! March 31, 2008 Joan Fox (Chicago Suburbs) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sad to say, the above poor reviews weren't kidding. The timer ticking continues for a time after the toast cycle is "done", allowing it to burn while you wait for the DING to alert you. I put a frozen piece of bread on "medium", and burned it to a char by walking away. Seems that the wattage is really hot too. Did I mention the uneven browning of toast? Yes, I will learn the hard way to trust my reviewer friends, as I shop here. (no complaints about the vendor)
FIRE HAZARD- Why has this model not been recalled? March 11, 2008 donny random 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a very close call today, almost burned down the house due to this product. I placed taco shells in the unit and set it at the products recommended temperature. Walked out of the room a few minutes, then noticed a very strong burning smell. Walked back in the kitchen and the taco shells were on fire. Pulled out the plug on the toasted with oven mitts put the toaster in the front yard to cool down. Why has this toaster not been recalled? I am very surprised that it has not burned someones house down. If you google "black and decker toaster fire" there are pages and pages of recalls of Black and Decker toasters. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
Fire hazard and impossible to control February 3, 2008 Gregory Pugh To control the toaster setting, you have 30 degrees of turn of the lower knob from light to dark - it is impossible to set. You have to watch it to make sure you get the toast right. Then, if you don't get it quite right, you can't just turn the knob a little bit to brown it a little more; the timer doesn't shut off when you make small adjustments. Have burned toast and smoked up the house twice with this nice feature. Someone is going to burn their house down by depending on this erratic timer. To add insult, the toast setting labels around the dial - as useless as they were - have already scraped off - paint poorly adhered. Next stop is cpsc.gov to file safety complaint. Then back to the store if they'll take it - or into the trash if they won't. THIS UNIT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! STAY AWAY!
Awful Product January 13, 2008 Donavin K. Bentley We received this toaster oven in 2004. Almost right out of the box, we had problems with opening and closing the door. It became such an inconvenience, we tried to avoid using it. For some reason, my wife and I put up with it for three years. We received another toaster oven this past Christmas. Lo and behold, it was the same exact product. We decided to give it another shot. Needless to say, the same problem occured. We're moving on to another brand...soon.
Doesn't work well October 6, 2007 WB (Honolulu) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Very slow toasting times and timer doesn't shut off during light toast setting. This was purchased after returning a Black/Decker Model No. TRO392 which overheated and started smoking(Electrical wires were burning) during first toast cycle. Two defective new units seem to indicate that B&D needs to improve their quality control. Unfortunately after having B&D Toaster Ovens for years, I now will purchase a different brand.
