Wonderful, but February 24, 2008 Kate Maeda (Apex, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this oven. The only time I use my standard oven is when this is too small. There have been a couple of other microwaves in between, but esentially this replaces an earlier Sharp Microwave Convection. I didn't roast a perfect chicken from the time the first one died (after 10-12 years) and the time I bought this one. One thing I don't see mentioned is that it's good for setting yeast bread to rise. Set the oven on 100 and set a cup of water in with it for extra humidity. I love all of the things that this does. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the two things that my old one did that this (as far I've been able to figure) doesn't. I miss the humidity sensor (so that when my water was boiling the oven stopped) and the thermometer. That one wasn't so much for meat, since the oven does well at cooking meat to the desired doneness if you give it the correct weight (if you stuff your chicken, make sure you include that weight to get the stuffing to a safe temperature). I used the thermometer to get soup to my favorite temperature, to heat things to lukewarm or to scald milk. I miss those very much, but this is still the oven I would buy. I'd pay, if I could, another $100 for those two features, but this was a great buy for the price.
3.5 years later...DEAD! February 22, 2008 Twila Davis Reed (Northern Virginia, United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After three and a half years of relatively good service, this unit is now dead. Went to heat up some milk for my coffee like I do on most days and POP! No power. Called Sharp since at least the magnetron should still be under warranty but they couldn't help. They just referred us to some local repair shops. Called one of the repair shops and the guy said it sounded like the power supply had blown out and that can range anywhere from $75-150 to fix it. So...pretty much not worth it to get it repaired, unfortunately! So, unless you plan on doing a lot of the direct heat and convection cooking, which we really didn't, save some money and get a cheaper unit that won't break the budget when you have to replace it. By the way, the popcorn setting on this thing really doesn't work all that well. It seems no matter what brand of popcorn we bought, or whether or not we used the popcorn setting, it always wanted to burn. I think it's the metal tray. The one time I tried using a glass pie dish turned upside down, it seemed to work better. But I'd always forget to get it out to use again. Just a heads up!
My 3rd Sharp product February 8, 2008 Beverly Lennox (Washington, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned 3 Sharp Convection/Microwave ovens over the past 25 years. They are the only one that I will buy. This last oven is a little smaller than the rest but performs as well as the others. Most of the functions are the same as I had before with a few added ones such as the "grill". I have only had this product for about a month but I wouldn't have any other.
Replacement for Panasonic Dimention 4 February 8, 2008 Fixer (Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Convection microwaves of this size are less available as time passes. This unit was purchased to replace a 14 year old Panasonic used in an RV where the size is critical. This unit fitted the old Panasonic "built-in" frame. The unit functions and cooks very well. The microwave seems to have less power than the Panasonic and the slightly smaller cooking cavity restricts pan size. Good value for the money. The rotating tray in convection mode is a restrictive characteristic. I recommend this unit for a space restricted convection / microwave need.
